Agreed, I bought this cd a couple of weeks ago after bmd's recommendation on here, and it's a lovely cd, although I also bought the 7" release of Tribute To Studio 1 and in true tribute fashion the single has a recurring hiss all the way through it!

I have to admit to risking it and purchasing a copy via phone of said single today from Dub Vendor.. great Cd, keep going back to it again and again, not tired of it yet, classic group harmonies, sweet and crisp..

i was lucky enough too have them in the studio at Xmas they sung live in the studio it was pure bliss Gordy had a chat with them on the phone as well, although I'm still waiting for my signed copy but they did sing "your Listening to Lawrence Gibbard" which more than makes up for a signed CD

Got this CD yesterday (when was the last time I bought a new CD?) and now I'm listening it for the 1st time.
Wow! A really great album, and not because of classic Studio 1 riddims but because of the Blackstones and their ability write good songs. Any fool can sing their puny lick over the riddims but very few can write great songs and deliver them with equal output. This group really make this album one of the best to come out of Studio 1 in many years (on par or even better with the Wailing Soul a couple of years back).
Everything's OK on the sound department as well. No repeated tracks, no annoying volume jumps, no sounds of turbulence from broken DAT machine. Goooood job. It's so good to say positive things about a record and this time without any lying.

GREAT album, great classic vocals all the way.The Blackstones sort of remind me of a cross between the Heptones and The Mad Lads on certain tunes. That Tribute to Studio 1 song is a stunning tune.Pretty much sure it'll land in my 2006 top 5.

Just to follow up on my remark on the 7" I bought. bmd told me the copy he bought plays fine, so I must have got a duff one. Dub Vendor have them in stock if anyone wants this fine tune on 7 aswell, I'm even tempted to go back and buy another!

The 7" is on 'Please Be True' - it's called 'Tribute To Studio One'. This is the only 7" off the Lp I know of.
The Cut that they use for Satta is as far as I am aware ( and I could easily be wrong without getting all out to souble check) the same cut as Brooks used, and is the only version of Satta from Brentford Road that I have ever heard, so my educated guess would be a Yes, if not resounding.

> is the cut to satta on the same take as "satta" im brooks (s1) yes -- Yes, definitely, Im Brooks' cut of Satta (also in Tony Tuff's Cool It). And it's not the same cut as in the Abyssinians' original (although recorded in the same studio).

I'm not sure I've ever heard the original cut of Satta now I stop to think of it..

I'm not sure I've ever heard the original cut of Satta now I stop to think of it.. Original satta is available for example on BAF's Satta riddim album. All of those cuts ride the original satta cut. And in addition to that Jackie Mittoo's Night in Ethiopia (off St 1 Showcase) is on the original satta, though heavily remixed and overdubbed. That Im Brooks cut is perhaps a couple of years later cut, 1971 or 72? Originally only as a 7". Probably different set of musicians, a little bit slower and heavier approach than teh original 1969 Sound Dimension cut.
