...odd isn't it, that the idea and constant re-work (etc.) of rhythms has remained exclusive (I think) to JA-based music. One would have that that, with all the other influences that Jamaican has had on music around the globe, re-use, copying, versioning of rhthms would have caught on elsewhere. Yet, beyond a few examples of blatant copying ( two examples - Adam Ant had a hit - can't remember which - that replicated the start of Burundi Stephenson Black's "Burundi Black" and Boney M's "Night Flight To Venus" borrowed heavily from Cozey Powell's "Dance With The Devil"), this practice, technique, call it what you want, is virtually unknown. Or have I missed it all Oh and a handsome set of rhythms there, Mikey

Dr. Alimantado's "I Killed The Barber" is one - uses the song itself, rather than just the rhythm or a version of it...

There is also Jah Stitch's "The Barber Feel It" on the Ali Baba Rhythm.
"Baby Why" The Cables is a great rhythm as well if I may add. Has it been reworked in a modern style?

Ali Baba:
Is it my imagination, or did Johnny Clarke do a version? And have you heard the Manasseh version? Its been about 4 years since I heard it, but I remember it as being quite good.
My current fav: Swing Easy.

Wasn't Ali Baba recut a year or two back as well?
I'm going to answer my own question - Yes, it was. 7"s released on Mixing Finger in 2004. Cuts by Chuck Fender, Anthony Cruz and Richie Spice available from EB, along with a remake of the original by John Holt.

Carltone & The Shoes - You & Me The Ethiopian - Incesantly
For me one of the most beautiful pieces of music Studio 1 has graced us with. All I need to make my life complete (for now) is the elusive Donna V LP with the third cut (and the only other I'm aware of).
