Of course I'm talking about vocal LPs, rather than dub LPs. I have yet to aquire them all, but "Long Life" is my favorite so far, by a good margin. I'm also wondering about Umkhonto We Sizwe (Spear of the Nation)...what's it like, aside from being unfinished?
And while I'm here, for dub, Cry tuff vol. 2 is my favorite, hands-down.

Umkhonto We Sizwe is an ok Prince Far I album. I have it on a cd, though.
My favourite would be either "Under Heavy Manners" or "Jamaican Heroes". "Health And Strength" is great too.

I agree that Umkhonto is just ok - the Survival track (and dub) being a particular standout for me. Favourite Far I albums include Voice of Thunder, Jamaican Heroes, Free From Sin and without question, Long Life which is a vastly underrated set IMO. In fact, Long Life might be my favourite individual set of them all. You really can't go wrong with the 2-disk Trojan compilation which has done a nice job of collecting songs from a number of his albums. And while I risk swimming upstream a bit here, I was mostly underwhelmed by the Silver & Gold set the B&F boys put out. Maybe I haven't played it enough but I don't think it's the achievement it was purported to be.

I love the Trojan 2-CD set. It has the complete (I think) albums "Free From Sin", "Jamaican Heroes", "Voice of Thunder" and "Musical History".
Some tracks are decent, but it is filled with killer tunes including my favourite "Head of the Buccaneer.

For me Under Heavy Manners, for a few reasons, mainly that it was one of the first original Lps that I picked up, and I got it in a near mint condition, with a knackered cover though it has to be said for £3. So for me it's a nostalgia thing with Far I. I also listened to the Cry Tuff Dub Encounter stuff a lot when younger and so that has a special place in my heart too. I don't for whatever reason really go that much for Far I and in many ways think he is quite overrated. Long Life, which I've seen many rave about I have too, and it's pretty weak to be nice to it... !

Yellowdog, I fully agree with your opinion of the B&F Far I set. It was really just a collection of scraps. There were a few highlights, but overall, if I had not already been a fan, and I heard that album, I don't know if I'd have become one. It has remarkably good sound though. Like I said before, I'm with you on Long Life too...it really hangs together and feels like an album. It also has a real song-like structure to the toasts, and Far I even lets some melody slip into his vocals. I mean, at a few points he's actually singing...not singing well, but singing with feeling and charm, like;
"When your enemies surround you, trying to devour you, so long"
Great set.

Yep, I rewind the So Long track several times when I play the album. One of my favourite Far I tracks.
