From a purely completist/collectors point of view I would like to get hold of: Little Roy - Tribal War Jimmy Riley - From the Ghetto both on Pressure Sounds 7" Anyone know where to get these or does anyone have spare copies floating around? Seems as though PS no longer has them. I'm not into paying high prices for them but I I would like to get them at some point. Cheers dm

Hi Mark,
no idea on the 7" singles but did you happen to get the Royals 10" on PS that was quite cheap at Ernie's a while back? One track on my copy has a weird mastering error where the vocals start out normal, then go in and out of Chipmunk speed for the rest of the track...kind of like the playing speed is varying between 33 and 45 rpm all by itself. Really weird and I was wondering if your copy was like this also.

I think the Chipmunk vocals are intended to be that way. Aren't they like that too when that track appears on one of the Sounds And Pressure CDs (if my memory serves me right)?
I'm missing the Little Roy 7" too. I did see that a couple were for sale through gemm recently.

Haven't heard this particular record but on one of the 7"s on Roy Cousins' Dove label, I think by Junior Reid, mid 80's Peter Chemist experimented with different mixing techniques where he altered speed from chipmunk style to extremely slow. So I guess it's not a bug, it's a feature.

Oh, old news to probably everyone but me, but and I really dig the Studio One version of Royal's Pick Up The Pieces that was featured on one of the Best Of Studio Ones that Hearbeat just released on CD.

Doug, I was going to reply that the track is at it should be. Is that the one where I-Roy mentions Saskatchewan? I always wondered if he had some kind of family connection. Richer, I'll have to check Gemm though they always seem to be so pricey. Cheers, dm

From what I remember someone was selling those Little Roy 7"s on PS for around $7 through GEMM.

I will have to listen to that one again - I haven't heard that track elsewhere so I was a bit surprised by the chipmunk vocals - it sounds very unlike the other Royals versions I've heard which tend to be quite restrained. Mark, I Roy mentions Saskatchewan in quite a few tunes; I suspect he had merely heard the name and liked the way it sounded and what he could rhyme with it!
