Just a heads up that I picked up this latest CD in Honest John's in Portobello Rd for £9.99. Same price for all the Pressure Sounds in there. Haven't had time to play it though. Any opinions yet?

I hope to pick mine up at Jumbo Records (Leeds) on the way home this evening, Matt. Will share my opinion in due course although I heard the opening Kunta Kinte track on Rob Walsh's show last night which augured well though the sound wasn't quite 100% (probably my ailing ghetto-blaster to blame). How are you enjoying your stay in England? You're certainly getting some weather here.

(apologies I posted this in Events instead of the normal reggae section)
Cheers Chris, yes, loving being back 'home' - apart from the English summer weather - worse up there I see! I don't think it will be just a stay, am planning to move back depending on a few factors that I hope to have fall into place in the next couple of weeks. In fact, probably won't even go back to Oz, will get family to join me here. Living on Ladbroke Grove at the moment and great to connect back into my normal life, friends, passions and interests etc - not to mention some decent West Indian food.

No surprises there, BBR a degree of homesickness could be seen in your posts. Accommodating the family anywhere near Ladbroke Grove could be an issue however... Can I recommend Rodigan at Neighbourhood (Acklam Hall as was) first Thursday of each month ? Almost on your doorstep.

Rodi mentioned fortnightly Thursdays at Neighbourhood on his show last Saturday.

MSE, the BIG, BIG issue when the family get here (assuming we don't delay for a few months longer), is schools and the social environment they will grow up in. I have serious concerns about some (read affordable) parts of London, and have to look objectively at their future, not necessarily about where I want to be. Might even mean looking outside of London. Wouldn't mind having a chat about schools & stuff. Back on topic, although I'm keeping my head and focus clear for weekdays, I'm up for going down to Acklam Hall depending on what I have on next day. Might not make the next one though, but I'll let you know.

A subject I've given a lot of thought about, Matt. My boy is 2 in November and after nursery its one of three local primary schools including the one I work in. With 1:3 kids locally having special needs at school brighter kids don't get pushed as much as they would elsewhere & there is an awful lot of behaviour disruption. Unless the bright children come from a home with books, stability and engaged parents they too don't fulfill their potential. The playground at my last school was a total jungle - litle starter crews running amok & rampant bullying and abusing. The catalogue of social problems in these kids' home lives is also mind-boggling. I often think do I want my son exposed to this stuff. The racial issue is also there ; white middle class parents in the inner city opt out of everything, local nursery's, starter schools and prep schools are full to the brim and are 99.9% white. There is one white/English kid per class in my school. The better state primaries are church schools. There is a good one near to us & we are considering it, however, 80 plus % of the kids there are from African families - surely no more healthy a mix than the local snooty prep school.
Secondary schools are another ball game altogether. 800 after every place at the ex-grammer schools. The current teenage gang culture is embedded in the suburbs so no relief there - the weekend was full of stories from Kingston Upon Thames and Beckenham where we are led to believe a full scale gang war with rivals from Penge of all places is in full swing.
Happy to meet up sometime. I'm at Rodigan (Brixton Mass) later looking forward to a barrage of weed tunes.
