Heptones and High Notes were freaking excellent tonight in Amstelveen. Wicked show, classic after classic, both early and later work. Sibbles voice sounded great (Llewellyn too, but he only did lead on Book Of Rules) and he had fun, clearly. All sounded well rehearsed by both band and singers. Lots of Studio One, some Perry stuff and a couple of other mid to late 70s tunes. Highlight for me was my favourite Equal Rights and the end of the show where Sibbles took the bass and gave a short spoken lesson on his contributions to Jamaican classic riddims from Studio One followed by a Full Up medley and Satta. The High Notes were excellent again too, as always. It was clear their specialty lies in the older style as opposed to later 70s roots, but also that sounded nice enough still. Great night out and since they were selling Cookie Jar releases at the merchandise table I finally got myself a copy of the Rock And Come In 12" and their Carlton Livingston 45. Go see 'm if you again, especially if the High Notes are backing 'm.
