Stalawatt with guest selector DJ Greedy G musically smashed it as always. Papa S with the killer modern roots selection, then I dropped a selection which ranged from early 70s S1 DJ action through 80s dancehall and some mid 90s roots anthems.
There was one pisshead who kept asking me for Motown, which ain't a problem as I like it, only I had none on me. I thought he was gonna start a fight with me as he got more and more pissed as the night went on. Luckily he left towards the end of my set!

Nice one, mate I hope this is a regular gig for you (and PS)... The words "big trees" and "acorns" spring to mind Hmmm! The nearest thing to Reggae on Motown I can think of is Syreeta's YOUR KISS IS SWEET and Stevie's MASTERBLASTER... There must be more from way back then...

It's just now and again mate whenever Papa S is able to secure the bar on a Saturday. The regular Wednesday night sessions are still going strong but it's a pain for me to get out midweek Respect Gordy

Yes G. Nice selection, as ever!
Shame this is more of a random rather than regular thing, not least in terms of promotion. Kinda hard to rustle up a crowd when I don't know when we might be there, especially when I get just a couple of days' warning and can only confirm a babysitter on the day...
Had an email from someone new in town to say they came along but didn't dare come in because the place was "empty". But then, it would probably make a difference if the venue bothered to promote themselves generally...
Ah well, it's a night out. And the people who came down enjoyed themselves, even if there weren't very many of them this week.
I had fun, anyway!
;D

Yes, was a good night and I was well out of it when I got home thanks to the tequila slammers Well, thanks to my tablets actually lol. Should have politely refused the tequila ;D I'll bring the Prince Mohammed DJ piece to the Phillip Frazer tune next time! Respect Gordy

Oh, I forgot about the tequila That helps explain why (a) I can't remember whether Albert asked us to do next Saturday as well, and (b) it was so hard getting up with Junior at 7am on Sunday. The Philip Frazer tune was nice. Will have to keep an eye out for that one. Should be able to confirm this Saturday on Wednesday night

Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! And other noises of extreme vexation.
Just had Fusion's manager on the phone, asking if we could swap Wednesdays for Saturdays. No problemo. But then, because I can't do this Saturday, he retracted...
I think things are going to have to change.

Sorry to hear that mate, it's a bit like almost having the fish but it struggling free....
You're bigger than there anyway, should be doing a regular club spot at somewhere like the Other Rooms.

for fear of sounding selfish, saturdays would be superb for me what with an early start on thursday etc.
Just checking out your site and I'm definately going to put in an appearence soon. I note that there are 2 gigs going on, one in Fusion & 1 in Tanners. Are they different crews? I'm after my DUB so what would you recommend?
I'm also seriously fancying the Mad Professor DUB night on 28 March. ;D
Keep us all uptodate regarding changes to the nights or venues etc
Cheers lads,

Different crews, haven't been to the Tanners for years, went once about five years ago. I think the Tanners' lads are more on a On U Sound/Dubstep/Drum & Bass tip these days and with Stalawatt you get the best in modern roots and classics (plus Studio 1 and obscure 80s dancehall 12"s when I guest!). I'd try a night at both sessions and see which one you prefer. Of course I'm biased towards Stalawatt but Jamie and the lads seem a good bunch too, so make your own mind up mate.

cheers for the info DJ greedy G. You know what it is, I guess it'll depend on my mood. I think you sold me as soon as you mentioned studio 1 though

> saturdays would be superb for me what with an early start on thursday etc. I know the feeling Dubwise, you might be happier with the Tanners than at Fusion - though I haven't actually been to the Tanners session for a good few years (since we handed the night over) so I can't really vouch for the current musical policy there. It'll depend who's playing on the night, but knowing the crew there, they usually come with a bunch of classics, possibly some recent roots and possibly some UK dub. Their website's a bit out of date, but it should give you an idea of where they're coming from: www.innadub.com/Check us out as well, though! If you let me know when you're coming down, I might even carry a dub set especially Respect, PapaS
