Sorry Swingy, but are you now the official promo man for David Rodigan? Personally, I rate this man as someone who has ruined reggae music. All his "wickeds", "murder", "killer" and other nonsensical expressions have meant that wicked, murdering killers have been in the ascendance ever since his Capitsl radio show in the 1980s. This man has no taste at all in reggae music. Just a middle class actor slumming.

A man who bigged you up TWICE at the recent show at Wembley.
You ungrateful git.

I've never been to a Rodigan dance, probably due to geography more than anything else.
I remember about 15 years ago in London when speaking to a Zimbabwean acquaintance about reggae music that he mentioned Rodigan negatively, citing him as being in some way connected to the increase in violence and bad vibes at dances. I didn't investigate his opinion any further at that time. To those who would know, is there any reason why someone may hold such a view? Just curious.

... he certainly had his knockers in the 80's Freddy, I have some lyrics from Papa Levi on him that would strip the walls. All I can say is that at the 60 odd Rodigan functions I have been too I have not seen one fight. This covers Gossips, Subterrania, Tudor Rose, Beaufoy, the Chopper, Neighbourhood, and Mass.
Hello to you too, PR. We are still trying to get a date together to come up & I'll tell you all then !
Suffice to say that his radio show was the only JA to be heard for donkeys years & I have enjoyed every Rodigan dance I have been to in whatever condition I have been in.

PS - Freddy - come rave with us a Rodigan any time. Every Wed at Mass & the first Thurs of the month at Neigbourhood. The latter is the best JA night in London in my view.

So what if he "bigged" I up. I don't need this kind of praise to justify my life. To me Rodigan is a typical middle class reggae person, full of "big" ups to everyone from Dave Katze to Penny Reel to John Masouri to Adrian Sanfranciscowood to Nicky Ezer. All I know is he came along in the footsteps of Mikey Dread and is a lousy writer. I've been reading some of his comments on reggae written in the early 1980s. "This tune is wicked", This rhythm is a killer", This version is Murder". Personally, I never describe anything as killer, GW Bush always excepted, and neither anything as "wicked", except of course for the truly evil Margaret Thatcher, wife and mother of gun runners.

Thanks MSE, sorry we didn't have the chance to hook up last time. Personally I think all this "wicked/ killer/ murder/ monster" business is just a wicked heinous conspiracy to drive the price of records out of reach of the ordinary man (or woman) on that great Babylon creation, eBay. Big up acknowledgement must go to Penny Reel who is not so challenged when it comes to noun, adjective and adverb.
