The great soul/ blues singer Artie "Blues Boy" White will be playing two UK gigs in January. He'll be accompanied by his US guitarist Travis Haddix and a local backing band. Artie will be at Stamford Arts Centre on Friday 12th January, and at Longthorpe Memorial Hall in the outskirts of Peterborough the following evening. Tickets are available from the arts centre or from the promotors, Shakedown Blues (who promote regular gigs by US artists in the area). His style is comparable to ZZ Hill or Little Milton, and his repertoire ranges from BB King to James Carr, plus plenty of original songs. I've been a longtime White fan and own most of his Ichiban singles and LPs, so I'm looking forward keenly to this, his UK debut. Hope to see some of you there!

Jings, a blues tour of Cambs....now there's a turn-up for the good book. Shame I'm not in town as I'd stand you an ale Mr Heanor. Any idea if he's reaching Paris? Pilot

No, the promotor brings artists in directly from the States, sometimes as many as one per month, puts them on at a couple of local venues and that's it. He's aman called garard Homan who used to put on gigs in the early 70s (Dr. Ross, Lightnin' Slim and other leg ends), went out and got a proper job and made a fortune, and has now retired and indulges himself in collecting rare blues records and bringing artists over for his own entertainment and that of local people. Great names such as Mississippi Harmonica Bean have lately graced the village halls of West Anglia!
