It's a friend of the family's 65th birthday and believe it or not I was asked to go along to the local pub and play a short hour set in the back room. When was I asked this? This afternoon lol. I'm just gonna walk up with a few CDs in a moment - said I'd play from 10 to 11. The DJ they'd hired from Ashington said he couldn't do it (don't know the reason yet) so rather than ring around and find a proper DJ they've asked peeps to fetch along some CDs and do sets over the pubs sound system.... I made it quite clear to me dad's mate that I wasn't gonna be there early on and have to sit and listen to Elvis and The Beatles for two hours. I'm under strict instructions to drop the usual commercial chart stuff from back in the days such as Israelites and Return Of Django but I'll slip in some Studio 1 too Respect Gordy

Just got back (handy with the pub being 15 minutes walk!). I played a safe Trojan/Bob Marley selection but DID slip in Feel Like Jumping, Horace Andy's "Fever" and Jackie Mittoo's cut of "Old Man River" aka Mission Impossible. Leaving Rome by Jo Jo Bennett proved to be a big hit with the elders, a few people of advancing years commenting that it was an "exquisite" piece of music Average age of the crowd was 60 lol My dad's mate is a big rock n roll fan and likes a little bit of general 60s music similar to my dad's tastes, but wanted a little bit of something for everyone hence my invite to play. Respect Gordy

Sounds like a good night! Everyone who calls "Leaving Rome" an exquisite piece of music has taste 60 is as far away as your age to me, my dear Gordon. It's all a question of perspective

Well done, Gordy! John Lennon would have been 66 today. A working class hero is something to be.... Most of your crowd tonight would be contemporaries of Lennon, and would have been young in the swinging psychedelic 1960's. I guess that if you've stayed at the pub, you would have been treated to stories of how the establishment disliked their long hair and mini skirts way back when. I suggest you find out where the "after party" (nachspiel) is located, and return now! to treat them with an hour of 2006 dancehall! They're in the mood for it now! Respect Funky D
