Popped down to Elephant and Castle last night to see Maxi Priest live and direct in London for the first time in ten years (so the MC told us).
The ticket listed a support act but if they performed then it must have been before 8:45pm when I arrived. Maxi came out at approx 9:50 and backed by his 4 piece band jumped straight in very energetically with a full set of old favourites mixed with some stuff from a forthcoming album. He was joined later on stage by Red Fox who DJ'd on parts of his set.
Highlight of the show for me was when he seemed to make an impromptu call for old Saxon members to "step up". Luckily for him Tippa Irie and Asher Senator answered the call and sent the fans crazy with some fast style toasting Saxon stylee.
The huge space in the Coronet was sparsely filled maybe around 900-1000 in total.
