It could, but my wife is off on a company retreat, and I'm not sure the Cloak and dagger would take kindly to my bringing my two little ones along.

That's great to hear ruta I plan to make sure this time that you are properly introduced to the many forum members that should be in attendance so I think you will have company. I will certainly buy you a drink anyway. NB. One of your colleagues has asked to be put on my mailing list too (but not shown any sign of actually booking as yet). Perhaps they would make good company? I have pmed you the name for your interest. Respect Baldy

Baldy - any rules to give us? vinyl only? dubplates allowed? 45's only or LP's too? please lay it down mr. mashitup!

Post by Baldhead Selector on May 11, 2006 15:36:18 GMT
The only rules are:
1. It has to be Studio One 2. It has to be a friendly (strictly good vibes in the place)
As long as it moves the dancefloor and sticks to the rules above, I don't care what gets played or what format its on (there will be turntables and CD players) or whether its an obscure dubplate or whether its 'Feel Like Jumping' as long as it rocks the dancefloor. This will not be any kind of purist session - I just want the people at the party to have a bloody good time (same as they do).
You both know the kind of style to go for at MIU! - The reggae Gordon played last time was absolutely spot-on. Generally funky stuff is a good rule of thumb but don't be afraid to mix up the styles - keeps it exciting imo.
Not everybody there will be reggae/funk afficianados by any means. There should be a number of birthday parties in the house outnumbering us anorak-wearing reggae spotters by some distance so just bring your out and out, dancefloor-rockingest Studio One tunes.
Respect
Baldy

Yes its tricky - I find myself listening to much more reggae than funk nowadays and I am very excited about this you guys sparring with your S1 heavyweight selections. MIU! has traditionally been a 50/50 split reggae to funk (roughly). This time however its definitely going to lean more to the reggae side of things quite heavily. Gordon is doing a little, strictly reggae set and then there's this friendly clash between you two. So I needed some funk in there too although I suspect that Zap, Rich and me will probably lean more towards JA too. I dunno, I found it tricky to weigh it all up and squeeze in all the things and selectors I wanted to squeeze in - but in the end I reckon its looking a very sweet line-up indeed although I did not get to ask all the selectors I would have liked to have asked by any means. See how it goes on the night - maybe I'll organise an out and out Studio 1 MIU! session one time (as you yourself once suggested I believe Jerry). Or maybe I'll do an all-dayer taking in a bunch of selectors and styles. Or maybe this one'll be so killer that I'll do it exactly the same again Respect Baldy BTW - Have I sent you details of the place yet Jerry? And do you know if you're bringing a guest yet?

So I needed some funk in there too although I suspect that Zap, Rich and me will probably lean more towards JA too. I suspect so too, Baldo mate - I'm just putting the finishing touches to my list...more JA than funk/soul, but - there's enough, I think...we'll see what the feel is... I guess we'll be speaking over the next few days...

I'm not fussed about the songs, I love the voting part of it and Wogan's sarcasm as the Balkan states give each other 12 points even though everyone else has gave them about 6 tops.

Give me a nudge on the night and it'll get spun. I've dug out some more early-mid 70s funk 7" and have digitised those
