OHHH you're all so bashful OK constant readers, I'll get the ball rolling shall I? Captain Africa's Top Ten releases/reissues from 2023 (in no particular order) 1. As some of the constant readers may have seen my earlier post regarding Jane Bee's - River Nile - Tuff Scout 10", so her release easily makes the top five. Everyone I've played it to, really 'feels' it. 2.1212 featuring Earl 16 - Love will tear us apart - Happy People US 7" - yes I know everyone is probably sick to death of this old chestnut, but for me Earl makes it almost sound like his own song & great riddim/production as well 3.Leroy Smart - So Much Things (Dub plate cuts) - Music Works/Common Ground Int'l 10" + the Gussie Roots Sounds 7" of the same tune, both mixed by Russ D - HARD! 4.Gladiators - Can't Stop Righteousness - Hit Bound/Archive Recordings 7" - Excellent in every way. 5.VA - Studio One From The Vaults Vol.III - Studio One LP 6.Ruddy Symbal - A So The System Go - Sufferer / Hornin' Sounds 7" - simply beautiful. 7.Bakery All Stars - Send Me That Love - Hornin' Sounds 12" - ditto. 8.Best Of Natty Dread - Book - interviews with some seriously rare artists & splendid photos. 9.Joe Gibbs & the Professionals - 100 Years Of Dub - Dr Bird 2CD - I wasn't expecting to enjoy this set as much as I do? 10.Sangie Davis - Jingling Keys - Horus 7" close runners up, TJ Thomas - Sad To Know I Am Leaving - Deep Roots 12" Laury Webb - Woman My Queen - Jamwax 12" Ruddy Symbal - Time To Realise Sufferer/Hornin' Sounds 7" Roman Stewart/Heptones - Rain A Fall - Park Heights / DKR 7" Michael Powell - Christmas Time - Hot Stuff / TRS 12"

Not a Top 5 or a Top 10, but most of DKR's rereleases of 2023 have been excellent.

Well this is kinda weird, I just recieved Junior Vibes - Sweet Jamaica yesterday!! Do you happen to work at Honest Jons by any chance FD? (seems all most too much of a coincidence, that of all the thousands of records you could mention , you chose that one Spooky) Any ideas what became of Mr Reels massive collection? Cheers Capt A

Cheers Capt A No, mr j j, I am not employed by any Jon, honest or otherwise. Wicked tune, though. And I have no idea about what happened to the collection. I heard somebody whisper that most of it got stolen, don't know if it's true, but that would add beautifully to the myth about Jah Reel's alleged badman connections.

...Jah Reel's alleged badman connections. Badman connections - chortle chortle
I had my bike stolen once. Wonder if I had badman connections too? Sorry, I can't add anything pertinent to the thread - I don't remember the last reggae record I bought

How come Mintz?, just bored with the whole style, nothing of interest being released?

Hard to say really. I've been listening to reggae since I was about thirteen in 1980, but less and less in probably the last fifteen years. I guess my tastes have changed. I still have a fair amount and enjoy listening to it in the car, and I dare say I'll buy more in the future, but it's not the musical be all and end all to me that it once was
