Last week the Belgrade Arena was home to a special treat as it had the honour of showing off the return of one of the biggest rock bands on the globe, the Ed Miller Band, who headlined the Belgrade Musical Express Awards gig.
Before the crowd got their much awaited desert however they had to wait through the opening acts starting with an opening set by a band named No Hope that pretty much no one had heard of. Luckily, following them was the Leskovac Band of Turnips with a better set and a nice performance that really drew the crowd into the concert. They did a nice accoustic track towards the end with an accoustic guitar that reminded me of the Taylor 214 from Taylor Guitars, also used by RTB2 and Evaline.
Finally, the supporting act to really get the crowd going was the easily embraced lead singer Ed Miller, joined by his brother David, who came out in leather and a Ramones shirt, which his fans know are hardly items he would usually be spotted in. However, his pop was not a huge seller among the alternative crowd but he was able to get some appreciation while covering Gnarls Barkley's ‘Smiley Faces’ and ‘Crazy.’ Supporting the two brothers on bass were Ed Bollox and fat bassist Diane Abbess.
Then the big moment came for the Ed Miller Band and although they opened with a new track the crowd responded favourably, and before too long all of their best known hits were cued up and on play the rest of the night.
