that's the one, mmike.
to be fair, i came to devoto early: spiral scratch warned me of (and off) punk. after that most of it, at the writerly level, felt like an uphill slog. so i guess he was ahead of the curve in that respect.
magazine sounded too big of brain, small of heart, and anaemic with it. i was hoping they would groove at least a bit, but unfortunately they are an english rock band.
then i saw a recent clip of them doing the one about f***ing somebody in the permafrost, and oddly enough, everything kind of fell into place: they sounded like they'd slowed down, loosened (and maybe even tightened) up sufficiently for time to catch up with them.
can't say they groove that much, though, but maybe that's not the point, this being english rock, after all.
anyway, it sounds like it's all good in the magazine hood. so live it up.

Edward G
Permafrost - on Secondhand Daylight - CD/ LP - My fav. Magazine LP/ CD.
Can't fault the muscianship on this / previous stuff, More Howard [snarly] Devoto the better.
Can still see Barry Adamson [Bass] slouched in/ on a chair doing Thank you Falettiinme Be Mice Elf [not on above format] Again a couple of y[ears] ago,,,, Absolute priceless ..................

It's, Noko has played with The Cure, Apollo 440, Howard Devoto/ Luxuria.
Good replacement for the late great John McGeoch, was excellent on 2009 tour.
