Wise choice. Will try to get up for this. Went to a few sessions up in oxford a few years ago. Great venue. Downbeat won't dissapoint either!!!

Just dig out the flyer. Was the end of 2006. I came up for 2 clashes, African roots sound, lord sambo, another sound whose name escapes me and the very impressive trenchtown rockers. Enjoyed myself. Nice venue. Well worth the drive.

Probably Addis Ababa. I was the one who organised those revival clashes (no music made after 1985) - fun but fairly exhausting. King Lloyd aka Sir Sambo went on to win eventually. His clash with African Roots turned into just the kind of personal dubplate battle I had hoped to avoid - never mind. Basically Eddie (African Roots) disqualified himself by starting on that path - Lloydie has tons of those kind of plates so not a wise thing to do either.
Keep thinking about doing it again, get our local selectors digging a bit deeper than usual and get a few out of town challengers in too. Maybe this year....

I think a decent run of sessions like that would be a top idea. they very rarely run smoothly with rules and times seemingly ignored but a good respectful run of 'clashes' is a brilliant idea

Thanks. It was Elijah's idea really, but I am glad we made it happen. I've got a DVD of the final which I have yet to copy in numbers, but could easily do. Your reaction has got me thinking about it again, thanks for that.
You are right about Trenchtown Rockers - David from Southall, nice vibes and some top roots tunes. My favourite session was their night with Addis - both crews well matched and on a similar wavelength.
Funnily enough one of the tunes that won the final for Lloydie was Hard Time Pressure by Sugar Minott - some in the crowd complained that it was a pop song, but the room erupted with applause and dancing (myself included). It's not always all about obscure things that 3 people in the room know about.

Glad it went down well, we enjoyed it. We need more of these 3am licenses!
I am normally a modern roots and dub kind of guy, but I do love the sound of a needle on ancient vinyl. Some wicked tunes all round, agreed.
Natty Mark is having a Lee Perry music night at EOCC on this Friday (until the usual 12:30 finish). He often does that, dedicates a night to an artist and plays a lot of their music. I did an Augustus Pablo one for him several years ago and it was great. Might have to dig out some Upsetting tunes and go along...
