The CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), Canada's national radio service, recently completed and aired a one-hour documentary on Jerry Brown's "Summer Records" label, and studio. It includes very recent interviews with Jerry himself, Carol Brown, Willie Williams and Noel Ellis among others. While it was created for a national, mainstream audience in mind, there are plenty of bits of information for hardcore reggae fans as well, or anyone interested in the "do it yourself" ethos. The show was broadcast a few times over the past few weeks, and is now archived for access via the internet. Here is the link, it's well worth checking out: www.cbc.ca/radio2/programs/insidethemusic/itm_listenagain/2009/09/17/right_right_time_the_summer_re.html

Is there any way to download the show? I'd love to have it in my mp3-player to listen to when sitting on the metro every morning.

@k No problem. Send me a PM with your e-mail address, and I can forward you a link to an MP3 version via "You Send It".
Same holds true for anyone else who wants an mp3 version - just send me an e-mail address and I will forward the download link when I get home tonight.

Isn't Noel one of the late Mr Alton's oldest sons? I have a photograph of him given to me by Prince Jammy in 1978. I believe Mr James had just recorded an album with him. I no longer have the album, if it ever existed.

Yeah, Noel Ellis is one of his sons. He has released an album on the Summer Records label (recently reissued by Light In The Attic). I haven't seen any LP of his produced by Jammy though. That would be a treat to hear.

Jammy put our an LP of his, entitled "Youthman Vibration". I don't believe Jammy ever recorded Noel Ellis. Perhaps this is the "Noel" you have a photo of? George Phang recorded a bunch of tunes with him in 1984, but they haven't been released, the tracks were just played by sounds. A very good singer in his own right, he relocated back to Trenchtown some 10- 15 years ago. He's probably best known as "Papa Cousins" who does the toast on "Rocking Universally".

Youthman Vibration should really be reissued.
