I know it's been discussed before, but name me some reggae songs that are about food. I'm working on a documentary series about West Indian culture, and need a bit of music that is specifically about food. "Roast Fish And Cornbread" and "Favourite Dish" by Lee Perry are out, since they're too weird for this particular audience. "Rice And Peas" by Roman Stewart is an obvious one, but a bit too somber. What else is there?

Best known is probably 'Dat' by Pluto, which is about pork.

not sure if it counts as food, but
melodians "banana water"
good tune nonetheless...
also, as reported on another board, zoki's got a stalk of smoked kielbasa, growing in his backyard.

Gotta have Early B's Sunday dish. he even explains how he cooks his fish dish and also make 'chicken back tastes like duck' - lyrics pretty intelligible to a non-specialist audience too - a wicked tune, full a vibes

Little Audrey's SEA PUSS AND BAMMIE (S1 ~ 1969)... Soul Brothers' CHICKEN AND BOOZE and/or CRAWFISH (though both are instros, as is the Hippy Boys' CHICKEN LICKEN Plenty of DUCK and other CHICKEN references, though these refer to dance (crazes)... - Eric Barnett ~ FAT TURKEY (instrumental again)
- Leo Graham ~ BREAD AND BUTTER
- Justin Hinds & the Dominoes ~ SAVE A BREAD
- Milton 'Henry' Morris ~ NO BREAD AND BUTTER
- Dennis Brown ~ MILK AND HONEY (a few other "MILK" instros as well)
- Laurel Aitken ~ MASH POTATO BOOGIE (a dance)
- Laurel Aitken ~ MR. POPCORN
- Tellers ~ GREEN GUAVA JELLY
I'll resist the temptation to mention Burning S pear or anything with "R eggae" or " Jam" in the title...or "De liver";D

Thanks for the ideas, but I don't have any of those tunes. I just edited the piece, and have a bit of Marley's "Lively Up Yourself" in the background over some chopping and sizzling noises before the narrator comes in.
