Big big thanks to whoever it was that reccomended this cd... got it last weekend and have been playing it non stop. Absolutely mesmerizing guitar work and just beautiful vocals. I insist you get this NOW, you will thank me.

yep, its a fine album. "mesmerizing" is just the right word for it.
don't forget to check their second album "amassakoul" which has a similar vibe.

Yes, "Amassakoul" is a great album as well. Mesmerizing is indeed the right word. I saw the band last summer, and I witnessed a whole clubful of largely uninitiated crowd fall entirely under their spell.
And if you really dig the vibe, check Ali Farka Toure's album "Niafunké". Slightly different musically, but with the same kind of unpolished, hypnotic "desert" sound.

Thanks for the reccomendations, "Amassakoul" is on order. I've been wanting to check out some Ali Farka Toure, is "Niafunke" a good jumping off place?

"Niafunke" is really good, but I'd recommend "Talking Timbuktu", his collaboration with Ry Cooder as a starting point.
It's a great album.
