Early favourite for album of the year.
I can't recommend this disc too highly. Every track (bar one) is better than the one before it. A completely fun time - funk, disco, reggae, soul and deep soul with a tropical flair.
Who knew Belize had such good party music?
Worth buying for the version of "Shame, Shame, Shame" Alone.
5 stars!!!

This looks interesting, Rosko. Thanks for posting. I see that the label also has: Eccentric Soul -- The Bandit Label Eccentric Soul -- The Capsoul Label Eccentric Soul -- The Deep City Label I may have to investigate.

Yeah, the store I was in had all of those, but after giving the Belize one a quick listen, I didn't even bother with the others.

Some time back BMD sent me an album of "paranda" music made by the Garifuna people who live on the coast of Belize, Honduras and Guatemala. It includes work by Paul Nabor, Aurelio Martinez, Junie Aranda, Lugua Centeno, Dale Guzman and Jursino Cayetano and is well worth listening to.

i have two albums from Belize, both are very interesting, one is punta rock with Andy Palacios, one of the main names of the genre, it seems. A very good artist i saw live once, very entertaining and danceable stuff, the other one is a rasta band whose name included "Turtle", music based on a lot of percussions, not really reggae but worth checking out. That album Rosko mentions really seems interesting

I'm loving it.
The liner notes made it seem as though very few recordings were released in the country. And the cover versions on the cd make it seem as though the singers weren't familiar with the lyrics.
No matter, their substitutions are good enough.
