Last night, actually. Flutter Step by Gary Peacock & Ralph Towner, off the ECM album "Oracle". Features some quite swinging fretwork by Peacock on double bass. The rest of the album is a bit more restrained; but quite excellent.

Carola & Heikki Sarmanto Trio - The Flame Great previously unreleased finnish vocal jazz from 1966. Don't hesitate to pick a copy up if you see it somewhere. Gilles Peterson likes it too. Available on CD or LP.

The rest of the album is a bit more restrained; but quite excellent. A double bass has no frets. If you want to hear much more unrestrained Gary Peacock listen to his work with Albert Ayler. Hard to believe its the same guy.

Yes, Zap, violin fusion can be very good sometimes. A couple of other fiddlers of the genre: Michal Urbaniak & Sugar Cane Harris (who rock and rolled in the 50's as the Don of Don & Dewey!!) - some great recordings in the 70's especially.
Now playing funky electric piano by Larry Willis - Out On The Coast (Groove Merchant). So let that be the jazz tune of the day.

I must inspect my laptop's "C:\data\Music" folder to see what other hot Jazz "biscuits" I've got in there - I suspect I have a few Internal Bass albums loaded (Mr. Gone, Down To The Bone, Peace Of Mind etc.) ....

Oliver Nelson: Swiss Suite (Flying Dutchman, Bob Thiele prod) Recorded with a huge big band at the Montreux Jazz Festival 1971, featuring Eddie Cleanhead Vinson & Gato Barbieri (to make it a huge battle between three saxes) and two fiery drummers: Bernard Purdie & Bosko Petrovic. Yes, there's even Michal Urbaniak playing as a sideman, not his usual violin, but alto sax on this occasion!! Great record, although for some reason it only gets 2 stars on All Music Guide website. Great source of knowledge, but their ratings are not reliabla. There's no accounting for tastes as usual. One man's garbage is another man's treasure. Don't look at this website for 1971 Montreux performers, just don't look, those days are long gone :-( www.montreuxsounds.com/database/result2004.php?year=1971

Once saw Michal and his wife Ursula Dudziak in a little folk club in Chicago in the early 70's. They blew the roof off. Thanks for the memories... Now playing: Mars Needs Women - Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Love those Wooten Bros!

Atmosfear's "Jangala Spirits" album from 1997 - though electronic and a bit dance-y, it's nearly Jazz!
I bought this CD based purely on having their 1981 "En Trance" LP - nothing like that at all (hardly surprising!) - cost me a quid from one-time UK shop - MVC!
