Little known facts about members of bands with the best names from Down Under Mick Blood from the Lime Spiders was once hospitalised because he thought Tic Tacs would make functional ear-plugs. Damien Lovelock from the Celibate Rifles is now a very good Football commentator. Tex Perkins from the Beasts of Bourbon is performing soon, backed by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Ross Knight from the Cosmic Psychos is a keen homebrewer.

Mentals still running Rosko - they played at my mate's wedding last year. Reg Mombassa is no longer with them but they are still good fun.

One of ours and he sparked the reply single from top-heavy Italian Australian icon Maria Venuti with "Listen to your Mama"

Is that Joe Dolce of "Whattsamatta You"? infamy?
I thought hewas some local Toronto guy with a novelty record, what was that 30 years ago?
Someone actually shipped that 45 to Canada? Where are customs tariffs when you need them?

"Shaddup A You Face" was (I think) 1981 and kept Ultravox's "Vienna" (an extremely annoying dirge) from the UK No. 1 spot...

can't beat the Pork Hunts, imho! the Screaming Orgasms is a good second, but as they are Japanese expats playing old school ska, not too sure that counts! ; )

They're called the Porkers these days - the sellouts! Where are the S.O's based Lankou? There's a few other Japanese bands spending a lot of time here, like Mach Pelican, which is a fair band name itself .

yes, i dig some stuff by the Porkers, not very traditional ska at all, but really one of the only crossover ska acts i can enjoy these days (that happens as you get old!). i wonder if the SO's were not from the northern coast but coul be wrong, i don't knwo where i put my CD, i know they have two albums and that the band consisted mainly of Japanese students, that might account for their not being active any more??? i'll try to fish it in my mess and will keep you posted.

I'm not big on the crossover thing myself but I first saw the porkers almost 20 years ago (and the second time last year supporting Neville Staple's Specials) and they're still plugging away, so good luck to em - their singer looks uncomfortably like myself, the poor devil.

I lurve the Flying Nun stuff (i was, for a hot minute, a Flying Nun recording artist myself, although I've never been to New Zealand) but my fave Kiwi band ever would have to be the Chants R&B. NZ's Pretty Things. Raw over-the-top rawkin' R&B from the mid-60s. Their live record is UNREAL!

We had the pleasure of the occasional Flying Nun package tours with the Bats, Straightjacket Futs and the Chulls all playing together.
