Okay
I'll get the ball rolling here by asking who can do me a CDR of Ethiopian 60s funk?
Respect

I can burn Ethiopiques 1 & 4 for you. Not exactly 60's. I understand there wasn't much recording done there until late 60's early 70's.
I owe you big time for the PB sets. I'll even toss in a little jerky big guy!

Hi Gordon- How tings? I can assist with a few of those |Ethiopiques discs but its more early 70s than 60s. The upcoming Mulatu restrospective on Soundway will tick all the boxes

Welcome to the board Bedward, much better than the last one is it not? I heard some instrumental Ethiopian funk on Augui's Soundclash show a while ago, taken from an LP called Instrumental Ethiopian Oldies or something along those lines. It sounded like the JBs recorded at Studio 1. I'm hooked Respect Gordon

Hey Bedward!
Thanks for turning me on to Ethiopiques series awhile back on that other board. A good example of OT talk paying off. Mulatu is I definitely the star of the show I think. Anything else by him you recommend?
Also, how 'bout some Fela Kuti. I've got "Best Best" collection and it's hot. What else does he have that's in the same vein?

I'm waiting for my girlfriend to drop by so that we can go to an Indian restaurant. I'm so hungry, this thread is making me think of tasty Ethiopian food!
Anyone ever been to The Blue Nile on Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley?
If you're ever in that town, hit The Blue Nile for top notch Ethiopian food and Amoeba Music for the records...

I bought the Mulatu 10" on Soundway. Way good ethiopian stuff fused seamlessly with jazz and latin.
Did anyone catch the Mulatu interview in Wax Poetics? Left me feeling really inspired and feeling good about his music. There's a nice Clancy Eccles interview in a Wax Poetics volume too - although a lot of it appeared in the recent 2 CD Trojan Eccles anthology.
