this one is for those who follow today's JA scene.I have a few LP's by this singer/DJ but i once heard a great tune on a radio that doesn't usually play such music. The lyrics said : "waan go back to Mama Africa", maybe it even was the chorus.the vocals were top notch and The riddim was a great example of current quality music (tepid Seasons and Drop Leaf, no thanx! ;D ).Who produced this and were there any other tunes on the same riddim? any help appreciated.thanks

Do you have the "Smile" album? If not, could it be a tune called African Bound? I can't recall the lyrics to that one to say for sure (I have similarly only ever heard it on radio once or twice), but it is also a repatriation themed song.
I have never seen it as a single or know of other versions, however. Nice, nice tune though, one of my favourites by Junior Kelly.

Could it be Jr Kelly & Lukie D's "Back A Yard" ? Rhythms called Back A Yard as well.

Are you sure it's Junior Kelly and not Starkey Banton who sings something like that in "Mama Africa" ?
Btw, I have two cd's from Junior Kelly (Love so nice & Bless) in perfect (played only once, not my style) condition to trade !! Somebody up for a trade ?

Are you sure its Junior Kelly and not Gyptian who has a tune call 'Mama Africa' out now on Ital Block 45 !!! i know its an unlikely mistake to make but the lyrics you qoute are similar back to Junior Kelly I'll have a stab at 'Black African Star' (FP records 45) cant find it right now though to confirm the lyrics, sorry respect Dots

given the sort of FM radio it was played on, i'm pretty much sure that tunes is on an album, not the kind of program that would consider playing 45's.200 % sure this is Jr Kelly!

African Bound on the Smile-album is a great song. Produced by Christopher Miller, recorded at Tuff Gong. Junior Murvin on guitar!
