No, I never got the 10" But recently picked up the 7" repress... Sound quality is fine but near the end of the song, the volume level drops a bit for about 4 or 5 seconds. Kind of a pisser... Does this happen on the 10" too?? If it doesn't I need to step up my search for the reissue [10"].... Thanks

I've got it on the Mr. Fix It/California dreaming CD as a radio edit for 3:45 that fades out fast if that's what you mean. The extended mix (10" format?) for 6:45 ends nicely. Killer tune; I love Winston's voice. Right up there with the all time great singers IMO.

Jcom --- well not such much a fast fade out at the end - more like a couple seconds drop in the volume near the end of the song. Will provide a sound sample later....Thanks

This song is on the CDs Studio One discomix and rare reggae grooves... is it the same mix? The running time is slightly longer on the Soul Jazz release.
Which of these releases is most essential?

the studio one discomix is strange release - why call it "discomix" when less than half of the tracks aren't discomixes ?

I look at it as discomix "Era" as in the late 70's S1 sound.
So is this a better CD than the 3 showcase Heartbeat sets? Keep in mind I don't care that it's mostly not discomixes. But I'm worried about the skipping problem
I'd like to get 2 of the 4 CD's in question and was wondering what people would recommend, Let's Go To Zion has to be on one of the CD's I get!

...I love Winston's (Francis) voice. Right up there with the all time great singers IMO. ...a great voice and a lovely bloke too, Jim - I met him once when he turned up next to me at a bar in London last year. I was there to see No. 1 Station in action and was talking to Marcus Downie (aka Downbeat - No. 1 Station's inspiration) over a pint when I was aware of this fellow who'd just come in to the place standing next to me. I turned and said "You're Winston Francis, aren't you?" - he said that he was and we exchanged pleasantries (Marcus knows him anyway). I told him that if I'd known he was going to be there, I'd have brought my Bamboo "Mr. Fix It" and "California dreming" LPs for him to autograph etc. etc. The conversation went downhill from there... ;D

Now to prove that I'm completely bonkers - here's a visual of the drop in sound: --- it's almost more of a drop in treble than volume but you can definitely hear everything decrease for a couple of seconds. I'm starting to wonder --- are they making these fucked up records just for me to buy.........b/c I'm the one that always seems to find these clunkers ---- when everyone else seems to find the normal copies. The only half saving grace - the volume/treble loss doesn't sound too bad when recorded to my computer - but playing 'live' on the turntable, it's much more noticeable... The matrix # is SOS 1003A - and it's a white Studio One label with red lettering if anyone cares.... Thanks for posting the other sources to find this song - that's what I need to go for it seems....

Well, it is Studio One after all. Quality control is not what they're noted for. I just take it all in stride; it's part of the charm I think. At least that's what I keep telling myself when even the S1 CD's skip or won't play on certain players.
Zap: You guys in the UK are so lucky. We don't see many reggae greats here in N. Colorado altho Toots shows up regularly and the Itals played down in Boulder a few weeks ago which I managed to miss again. We've got a lot of dreads here; though of the white trustafarian variety. White boy dreads are just wrong!

Maybe lucky Jim - I don't get out as much as I like (or should!!!) and it was only because Downbeat knew him that Windton Francis came over in the first place - I'm sure he didn't think "Ooh! There's Joe/Zap - I must go and introduce myself!!!" ;D

The 10" has got a longer vocal with an extra bit which has wicked vocals...i would hunt it out. i used to have the 70's 7" press and don't remember any drop in sound on that

;D - yes Zebe, you're right with that....with some Studio One vinyl, guess it could always be worse - or maybe not?
