Can anyone answer these questions about Joe Gibbs All Stars' "Hi-Jacked" (UK Amalgamated AMG865 1970):
1) Was the pure instrumental version ever properly released in either JA or the UK, or did it only appear as a pre or blank?
2) What US Soul tune is this based in - I have it somewhere but can't place?
Thanks - Joe / Zap

Can you upload a short clip of the tune? Or is it already on a compilation somewhere that I may have a copy already? I would be interested in identifying the soul tune. Can't answer the question 1) though. My wild guess without hearing the tune would be Tyrone Davis - Turn Back The Hands Of Time. If it's true then I'm a psychic. That was the first tune that came to my mind, even without hearing.

Thanks, ahorn - but TBTHOT is covered as "Money Raper". I do have the original US version somewhere, I'm sure (I think Dave Home sent it to me, or I may have it anyway) - I just can't think what it is.

It's not TBTHOT, that was covered for Joe Gibbs by Nicky Thomas. I'll have a hunt around & see if I can dig something up Zap

Joe - 1) I've only ever seen the instrumental version of 'Hijacked' on a Pressure Beat pre with no artist credit. 2) The original is 'Hot Cha' by Junior Walker & The All stars.

I have the "Hijacked" tune on the back of Prince Far I's "Heavy Manners" 7" on Heavy Duty. Matrix is DYNA JG 1861-1. It's not credited on the label though, that just says "Heavy Discipline" by Mighty Two

Thanks for the info re "Hot Cha", Youth - I do only have this on CD-R (from Dave Home). ...so it would seem that the pure instrumental version of "Hi-Jacked" never got a proper release. Thanks for the feedback all - the reason I asked is because a music professor from Princeton got in touch with me regarding JA tunes that have seen instrumental versions and those with added vocalising (not singing) - he wants to use an example for some coursework.

I missed out on the original JA Heavy Manners as it came out quite quick on UK Lightening. Is yours a repress Edward (as the original usually has a dub on the B side)? Neither matrix appears in RKR

I'm pretty sure it's an original, it certainly looks it. The matrix number on the A side is DSR 1879. Here's a scan of the label

That's the original Edward - looks like I need to track it down. BTW The vocal piece Su-Su Pon Rasta (FJG-7802-A) - Nagoo Morris was re-issued on Joe Gibbs late last year c/w dub
