i was going to (and probably still will) ask the same on b&f but right now they seem to be going through some crisis or another so i thought i would increase the reggae content of my posts by asking here:
i notice ernie has a bunch of new cheap stuff in and i was wondering if anyone had any info on these
first off is a couple of releases on what is called "rockers" label but looks kind of dubious to me, to wit:
Various - Lee Perry & Niney The Observer: Producers Rockers ROXSCD005
Various - Simply Rockers Vol. 1: Jamaican Music From The Vaults Rockers ROXSCD001
Various - Simply Rockers Vol. 2: Jamaican Music From The Vaults Rockers ROXSCD002
is this really "rockers" (eg: augustus pablo) label? any reviews of these?
looks like trojan stuff to me...
next up, the infamous black arrow label. i bought a couple of things on this label when they came out but was hugely disappointed because they truncated beginnings and endings etc, sloppy crap in other words. any reviews of the following with that in mind?
Various - Marcus Garvey Rhythm Black Arrow BACD008
Nitty Gritty - Run Down The World Black Arrow BACD006
Johnny Osbourne - Live Good Black Arrow BACD005
finally cousin label has out a couple of things called "resurrection" that are mafia and fluxy under vintage vocals by delroy wilson, slim smith, etc.
aside from the usual chat about graverobbing etc, any opinion on these releases?
finally finally it seems the attack label is once again on the attack so to speak with releases like:
Augustus Pablo - At King Tubbys Attack ATCD015
Barry Brown - Platinum: Greatest Hits (1976-1979) Attack LEECD004
Horace Andy - This World + Dubs Attack ATCD012
Slim Smith - Platinum: Greatest Hits (1968-1971) Attack LEECD006
Tommy McCook - Tommy McCook Featuring Bobby Ellis Attack ATCD011
U Roy - Meets King Tubby Attack ATCD013
U Roy - Platinum: Greatest Hits (1975-1977) Attack LEECD005
some of these appear to be recent redos (i think the barry brown is noted as this...kind of funny because the title years would indicate otherwise but thats what ernie says...) but has anyone heard these or can comment on them? is this the same attack that was the trojan subsidiary?
by the way most of these are bargain priced at ernies so maybe thats a clue?
one love
