Help needed id-ing this tune.. s57.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2115S3V5U3S041VKP5KPWRW36SThe matrix is GG 087A-1 It doesn't show up in the usual discographies and is a white label 12" from '80/81. It sounds Barrington Levy-ish and also has a dj version. Anyone know the title, singer or dj? Cheers, Ian

hahaha, yep you know me, one small step at a time!
I'll get around to working out the mp3 thing at some point. I did try converting something to mp3 once before but failed miserably, whats the best way of doing this?

I've never heard the song before but the singer is Barrington Levy, no doubt about that. DJ remains unknown but sounds a bit like Nigger Kojack, perhaps or Jah Mikes...or someone else.

For Mike and anyone else who wanted it in mp3 I've just re-loaded it on mp3 and posted the new link in the original post.
(blimey I managed it!) ;-)
Thanks Juha for your thoughts on this tune.
Anymore ideas out there?

I think it might be Ranking Joe.
I just checked for the tune everywhere I could think of and found nothing conclusive, but in my travels checked out Levy and Ranking Joe's tunes called River Jordon and River Jordon, both released on the greensleeves label here in the UK. Now the tunes aren't the same, .. but the Deejay on both pieces does sound mighty similar hence a suspicion, nothing more that your Deejay could be Ranking Joe, Ian. I'm not very good at i.d.'ing this Deejay's voice though so don't quote me on that . I tried Tapir's discog, but it's missing this GG's release. I also found a tune on a ship site that might have something to do with this,... it's a Thompson Sound release so...

There are some Ranking Joe manouvres featured there but I think it's just imitation since the voice is so different from RJ anyway.
Hey just realized that could be Captain Sinbad!! That's the closest my DJ recognition radar comes.

OK Nick it's a bet, if anyone Identifies it as U-Brown conclusively I'll send thee $5 by paypal ;-) I just find that U-Brown bubbles around on the rhythm a bit more than that, but who knows, I'm preparing my gob right now, becuase it may have to eat humble pie

Thanks Big 5, I don't have that lp but if anyone has it and could check, that would be great. Here's the link to it on Roots Archive... www.roots-archives.com/release/792/?highlight=9693As regards the debate who the dj might be, I haven't a clue! Cheers, Ian
