I was just thinking back to how we were all asking for rare rocksteady to be reissued on the other board and within a year or so we've had "Red Bum Ball" and "Safe Travel" on Pressure Sounds, the Caltone collection on Attack, The Trojan Rocksteady Rarities Box and a couple more I'm sure I've forgotten at the moment.
So I think if we keep shouting loud enough about certain reissues, people WILL eventually take notice......
Let me begin the chanting......
THE MORWELLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FREDDY MCKAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PRINCE BUSTER PRODUCTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Respect
Gordy

The one Freddie McKay tune that I really hope gets compiled on an anthology is "Sometimes I Cry" (I think that's what it's called). This is the original vocal version to one of the dubs on the Linval Thompson "Phoenix Dub" on Motion, right?
I think Gordon included this on one of his top productions of a certain year list too.
Are there any legal restrictions that have prevented this tune from being compiled legitamitely, or is it that no one's gotten around to it yet?

I don't see any reason for any of this stuff to be reissued. Let it lie.
I don't mind Randy or Joe Gibbs or Leggo reissuing the occasional single, but records companies like B&F, Pressure Sounds, Trojan, Auralux, Lagoon, Jamaica Gold are just bootleggers to me!

And what about us Scotty, the people who are younger than you and were unable to buy the originals? Are we not allowed to hear this music too?

No wonder they reissued what Gordy was asking for. That is one intimidating picture!
I'd shout it from the rooftop (except it's currently coated with ice) PRINCE BUSTER!!!

Observer Bollox - I buy CD's, not vinyl 7"s because they're cheaper, you get more music on them, I don't have a record player etc, etc. Get current.

Thanks Captain - a version of John Holt's "Sometimes" - UK Unity UN548 1970 - a Bunny Lee production
...and it is "Lonely Cry" on Phoenix Dub that is a version of this...

Hello Bill, nice to know that at least you are consistent in still having a go at me. In fact, I rarely charge people to tape off my records. I've given away free probably 50 CDs in the past year, including a four LP John Holt collection to aka Richie that I could have got £10 for at the CD bar around the corner, a couple of Bunny Lee box sets, the full things not the promo I sent you, and a Slim Smith double CD to some guy called Welda who lives in the US.
I do know a guy who comes around and insists on giving me £30 per 90 minute tape. He usually gets about 33 tunes for this. The business takes about three hours of my valuable time and I regale him with cups of tea, coffee and the occasional snack and spliff. It was he who suggested I'm paid for this and it buys ganga and a couple of records.
If you would like to tape off my rare Bim Sherman singles that I ran all over London for five years from 1975-1980 finding, then it will also cost you £30. I can remember sending you some hard to get dubs of Bim Sherman free; but if you want the vocals I'll charge you. After all, these records cost me perhaps a hundred quid or so, they've been in my collection for 25-30 years. I'm afraid they're not for sale though.

i already have most of those bim sherman records there scotty, including the dub versions. i dont believe there was anything on that tape i didnt have elsewhere. it was nice to have them collected together but not essential. and it appeared to have been recorded on an already-used tape.
give me your address and i will send those cds back. dont really care for the slim smith one, got all that stuff already and what i didnt have pretty much put me to sleep. the dub set was full of cut off songs and one disk wouldnt even play. they are basically just taking up space so maybe you could find someone else to send them out to.
in other words, dont think you buy my silence so easily.
i still think its funny you calling people bootleggers...one of the most obvious cases of pot calling kettle black ive heard in a long time.

I don't want 'em back Bill. I think only one of those CDs had curtailed versions. I've since had the fully printed set with my sleevenotes but have given them all away.
I'm very sorry you didn't like Slim's LP. I'd have given it to someone else had I known. There are some of his best tunes on that; better even than his Studio 1 sides. I mean, 'Blessed Are The Meek' aka 'The Beatitude'. What a tune! You told me you only had the S1 set, which is why it was sent.
I'm not trying to buy your silence. I simply love hearing you speak.

PS I'm off to see a guy now with a handful of free tapes.

its all about, and for, you, cd!
the only pure slim smith release i have is that studio one set but as you likely know, his stuff has been all over compilations for decades.
