Yeah no probs, was just thinking of acts hot in JA but Kenny Knots has made some fine tunes lately. Haven't heard a lot of Lutan Fyah.

Can I vote for Ernie B? He gets more of my hard earned dunza than anyone else except my wife Actually I voted for Richie Spice, been pretty impressed with his stuff lately. Tough call though as virtually all the choices have put out strong tunes. I'd watch for Fantan Mojah and Perfect this year, I think those two artists are just starting to hit their stride.

I gave Perfect a vote as he didn't have one and deserves at least one for a number of hot tunes over last 18 months in singer, singjay and deejay styles. A very talented youngster who mixes political subjects, spirituality and sometimes a sweet almost endearingly innocent take on relationships and his environment.
Some Perfect tunes that have been blasting out of my hi-fi in recent times...
Corner Stone (MX) Eight Gangsters (Addis) For My Family (Delperies) Ganja Spliff (Tads) Grow Yuh Natty (Frenz) Hand Cart Boy (Rebel Muzic) Talk Black Marcus (Down Sound) Haile Selassie (Lion Vibes)
disclaimer....all the others on the list are also releasing many great tunes aswell ;-)

i'd say Natty King, when he doesn't try too hard to sound like Luciano. i also rate a guy like Josie Mel (check his recent album on Minor7Flat5) very highly, just like Jah Mali, Jahmel, Torch...Luciano is a standout artist who releases too many tunes, spreading himself thin. if we selected the top 10 records of each of those artists, he'd destroy any competition here, i guess. i found the 2005 JA roots output very boring -at least among the big hitters - but i'll admit Mr Perfect's lyrics are some of the best i have heard for a few years.vocally, he is just OK. probably i am getting old...

Turbulence got my vote although a case could be made for Richie Spice, Lutan Fyah and Fantan Mojah too.
Not too sure I would have included Natty King at the expense of artists like Jah Cure, Jr. Kelly, Jah Mason, Daweh Congo, Chezidek and Norris Man although to each their own. I've tried quite a few times to get into that Natty King album and I really struggle to get through it.

one third of Natty King's album is useless.I really think that reggae isn't really an album music. it's even rarer nowadays that you find a 100 % interesting album. i can't get through a whole Jah Cure album myself. The guy did some excellent tunes, no doubt about it, but sometimes his plugged-nosed whining gets on my nerves. having at last heard the first Fantan Mojah album, i think that's a good one.i wouldn't rate him among the top artists recording nowadays but rather like a strong upcoming talent. his style still says where he's coming from, influence-wise, anyway.

I pretty much agree with everything lankou2 said except that I haven't heard the Natty King album (though I'm ready to agree on the basis of some singles heard) and I haven't heard the Fantan Mojah album but I have some of the singles. I especially like Hungry. So I voted for FM. dm

Check for these tunes before you write Natty King off Mark:
No Guns to Town (2 Miles) Who Cares rhythm
Mr. Greedy (Insight) Mr. Greedy rhythm
Cut Down the Price (Insight) Cut Down the Price rhythm
Gun Town (Loyal Soldiers) Black Shade rhythm
Trodding (No Doubt) Triumphant rhythm
I assume you don't care for Blood Out There from the BMC discs? I don't have either the NK or Fantan Mojah albums but they are on my list.

I actually own the Blood Out There single but I guess it hasn't made that great an impression on me - I had better give it a couple of spins. It's probably the case that I just haven't given it the proper attention - mostly due to lack of time. dm

D'you what I really, really, really hate??
Polls like this where you have to chose one of several listed artists. They only show which one of the listed artists you prefer .... which may not necessarily your actual favourite.
