bass is thin.. overall sound is good but not as great as originals
you can hear the sound of the original record cueing up at the start of the Johnny Clarke "Rude Boy"... so these are 12" pieces of wax, but basically big CDRs
what else should we have expected from culture press though, right.. too bad too as so many were able to not mention that point when buying in this coveted format
if i'd heard them first i'd probably have skipped my purchases
but that's just me.. let the disagree-ers come in..

Yes, I thought that weren't nearly as solid as my old original of Rude Boy, ... however it'll do for now,,, those twelves (the originals) are some hard pieces of Dancehall vinyl, tough sound, and you're right, the A and C revives, not a shade on it, good thing I only ordered the one then.. :-)

yeah i think you're right on there, mike.. worth having probably, and murder material, but should not be sold or confused as being from original master tapes, like the DEB 12" from last year
close, but no pete ceegar.. as a certain gordonboarder would say

i picked both the sylford walker & jc guide us jah & was amazed by how good they sound...seriously ! great music & great pressings. probably the other ones sound less good btw - not trying to protect culture press here but these release *might* be legit. culture press goes back long way & i hope they didn't started as the bootleg label they are now

quite possible because I only picked that one up.. Have you compared with the originals though. Not to be snobby or anything or eliteist, but nice is right, the Rude Boy 12" at lease doesn't really quite stand up.

I, as someone that never heard, saw or knew about the originals, am very impressed with the quality of the tunes and not impressed but certainly also not unimpressed with the sound quality. They sound pretty good I'd say, sure could be a bit fuller in sound, but good still. Keep in mind that I thus never heard the originals, so can't compare. I also noticed that recorded starting of the vinyl, ie. mastered from an original single, but I prefer having it like this than not having it at all. All in all, a great opportunity to hear and play these tunes, compared to waiting for a very expensive original to show up somewhere. I do doubt about these being legit, but too late for that, bought and have 'm now anyway.

anyway good to know about the others, guess i'll avoid them. any info about the symbols one ?

symbols and ranking caretaker on flip are wicked tunes.. cut to same riddim as tony tuff & jah stitch tune "rumors of war" or whatever the title is.. sounded good over radio but haven't played them for myself, on my own stereo, to know if they are from masters or replicas made from an original-release record
by the way that's not the problem in itself. i don't mind what source or process is used, i just want big low end like original wax. they just didn't bring the full range of sound from the original piece to the new pressing. at least not on "rude boy".. pretty close, maybe 75% or so of the bass, but not close enough so that i love it love it. plus you can hear surface noise from the original record..

i probably should have titled this thread "are new art & craft 12s toy records?"

Hope mines better than yours then, because Ive just ordered them and it would be a real drag hearing them sounding like the Freedom Sounds 7:a I bought the order day - Jah Foundation, cant remember the singer at the moment. Great tune but poooor sound quality, nearly no bass at all. Most stop buying all these crappy things.

I hear you Jahkob, I bought Sylvan White - Live In Love on Freedom Sounds and it was one of the worst pressings I have ever bought. I almost sent it back but the postage from New Zealand to, uh ......anywhere for one single is just not worth it.
