Gladdy's talkin about spinning tunes right from 12pm as long as the sound is set up in time i did read it somewhere i think - but if gladdy 's bringing his own set to play on, i think that's worthy of a specific mention... ...oh, and if you could get a picture of phil so that we can gauge his current likeness with one our more illustrious posters, that would be great!

Are you playing inside or out Tim?
If you are out I guess me and Sean could listen through the bars... otherwise, no kids, right?

Yep, around that time.
I've never had long hair, although I did have a Mark Lamarr-esque Teddy Boy quiff at one time.

What sort of stuff does Jerry Dammers play?

Re Jerry Dammers - this, from John Eden's blog: uncarved.org/blog/?p=846"Jerry Dammers was on last and ripped up the place with some junglist business. Obviously the bloke is a total legend and has already fast-tracked his way into the uncarved-hall-of-fame, but what is exceptional is that he’s quietly carried on, keeping up to date rather than rehashing his past. Reports of his recent DJ sets show a love of Congo Natty and Razor-X, perhaps the latest incarnations of the Two-Tone current’s commitment to musical and cultural cross-pollenation (at least before the arrival of Grime and Dubstep)? Legend!"

Yeah thanks Richie. Everyone will be playing on Gladdys sound system. I suspect it may not be every box but I've seen him set up in the vibe bar before and I'm sure he won't skimp on the bottom end.
Wwe're playing inside Benj - outside there are indy type bands with odd names.
Last time I saw Jerry Dammers a couple of months ago he played a mix of Reggae and Drum & Bass, quite a few mashups too.

Missed you Tim, had the nipper and the courtyard was rammed at 3pm so no chance of getting inside.
Must have been pretty hot inside... how did it go?
See you Nov TU if not MIU.

> What sort of stuff does Jerry Dammers play?
I've played alongside Jerry Dammers a couple of times in Newcastle - and he pretty much plays what he wants as long as the crowd are digging it.
First time was at a quite diverse festival - he was switching between new roots and old-time ska to please a (dancing) crowd fairly evenly split between ageing skins and other folks - there was this weird kind of flow on the dancefloor where the skins would leave when he played roots, to be replaced by other folks, and vice versa when he played ska. He said afterwards that he found it really frustrating - he wanted to play a modern set but the skins kept pestering him to play old tunes.
Second time was at an Owen Gray show - he played a ska set, with a little bit of new roots towards the end of the night before he dipped into a Specials selection - I recall Ghost Town overladen with tons of echo effects ripping the place apart.
Never heard him play jungle up here, but then I wouldn't play jungle to the crowd up here, either.
I've noticed a lot of Chezidek in his 7s box.
Hope it was fun yesterday.
Respect,
PapaS

Yes it was great. Poor old Gladdy had the grave yard shift early on when there weren't many people round. By the time we came off at 6pm it was rocking. Andy Smith took over with Brother Culture on the mic and were excellent - Andy's a bit unauthodox from the Reggae point of view - he has a 12" vinyl carvers type disc full of siren sounds and samples - I haven't seen any one doing that for the longest time. That said he's an excellent turntabalist and can mix as if it's the easiest thing in the world. Brother Culture was on excellent form too. I had to leave befoe the end of his set so missed Jerry Dammers.

Funnily enough, Jerry Dammers had something similar at the Boss Sounds festival last year.
Glad you had a good day.
