Were you hare when I was fox !?! Thanks, Grumpy - enjoyed those. The second one in particular. As I'm only really familiar with This Mortal Coil's version, I was quite surprised at what some of the lyric actually is. They must have changed some for their rendition. Right at the start I always thought it was shapeless ocean, though shipless does make more sense, of course. And something about oysters too. And killing newborns! A revelation... Just been watching TMC on Youtube and reliving my youthful crush on Liz Fraser: www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1LeXdP9lcM&feature=relatedBut, all pale into insignificance when compared with this mighty version: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVPHRzstYkY

I saw Tim Buckley at the Royal Albert Hall in early 1968, supporting the Incredible String Band. There was also an appearance by The Exploding Galaxy of Balls Pond Road, so I spent much of the evening gazing dreamily at all six foot and seven inches of Michael Chapman, surmounted by a further six or so inches of henna coloured hair. Tim Buckley was on Elektra, so he was the most acceptable of all the new fokies, sharing a label. not only with the Incredible String Band but also, and most importantly, the Doors and Love. Tim's big song at the time was 'Morning Glory'.
I haven't heard him for at least 42 years!

Ok, if we're name dropping I used to hang out in the same crowd as The Cocteau Twins back in the early 80's in Dullsville, Scotland. Liz Fraser was a really down to earth girl, if a bit kooky. Robin Guthrie was a big headed cock.

the Cocteau Twins are great, Heaven Or Las Vegas is one of the best records ever made, especially Iceblink Luck and the astonishing Road River & Rail. I didn't buy their records at the time, but I had seen the video for Pearly Dew Drops Drop on MTV one mystical night when I worked as a security guard at the Daily Mirror in the eighties. Huddled in my little hut at some unearthly hour alternating between the mostly rubbish MTV and blasting out Shaka session tapes on my "ghetto blaster". I was the worst security guard you can imagine. Anyhow, I was impressed by Ms Fraser and sometime afterwards bumped into her and Guthrie outside the Record & Tape exchange in Notting Hill and felt compelled to tell her that I thought she had an amazing voice, I'll never forget the look of fear and puzzlement in the thousand yard stare of her cobalt eyes. Sad, eh?

Hi Grumps, great stuff. I was just watching the first of these clips a week or so ago! Buckley recorded Song to the Siren quite a few times...there's another rawer acoustic version around also. That first youtube clip is exquisite: young, heady stuff - incredible to think what he recorded before he passed at 29... Love the Cocteau Twins too...love Gripe even, especially now I know he ran with them! Nice job on the Catalans wee man. Bon soir a tous, Pilot

Sad, eh? I liked their track Persephone and played it quite a lot..i'm on nodding terms with their drummer Benny Di Massa..more friendly with his younger brother Danny..seeing as how we're name dropping like also two tracks from greetings from LA were on the cd we played when our nipper was born..get on top of me mama and another one..the midwife asked my missus a queation and she took another whiff of gas and said "ssshh this is my favourite bit"
