Not quite the madeleine dipped in Yorkshire tea but reassuring nonetheless to sense that my memory isn't entirely a colander and that apparently forgotten experiences will occasionally evade the holes leading to oblivion's drain and float back to the memory's surface without any conscious effort at recall. I hadn't thought about this particular event in donkeys' years but this afternoon, as I was walking along the Headrow in Leeds past what used to be the old ginnel-like entrance to the City Varieties Music Hall, unbidden it came back to me and has had me in a state of near-euphoria for the last few hours: a gig I went to there back in 1990 or '91. It was the Breton harpist Alan Stivell and the highlight of the concert was his wonderful rendition of the Irish masterpiece, "She Moved Through the Fair". Just had to check if it was on YouTube when I got home: www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5p67NsJsWo

I would have thought your moment pertains more to a different French author, Zoks.

Just noticed your kind offer, Hugh, for which many thanks. However I know that my friend Maggie, who emigrated to Machynlleth three years ago to learn the Welsh harp, has a copy. In fact she was at that City Varieties gig too.
