African Stone are Matumbi posing under a different name. Buster Pearson was originally a meek guitarist who worked for Trojan. In the mid-1970s he started the K&B label, getting stuff from Hudson, Woosh and Zukie due to his friendship withy Barry Dunn. That Linford Nugent tune, for instance, is a Zukie production featuring a member of Junior Ross and the Spear.
In the early 1980s I paid a visit to his shop in Ilford. Buster told me that he had stopped issuing records and was now concentrating on making his own children into a group to rival the Jackson Five. They were called Five Star and indeed they went on to become very successful. I still have a photograph of Buster with guitar circa 1973. It is a Trojan publicity shot!
I indeed have the Patrick Alley tune on K&B plus several other Wes Brooks productions. In fact, I think I have the whole K&B catalogue. I also have the Jesaro People side but this has nothing to do with K&B.

I bought Jasro when it came out - around 1978 - and believe it to be a London recording. Besides that I know nothing..................

Five Star are mostly considered pure cheese now - but back in the day, their tunes were HOT! I too remember visiting Buster Pearson over at Ilford - in about '77 or so. Some of his kids used to help out in his record shop back then. I've always loved Buster's own tune 'Take It Easy' on the K & B label. 'Run Rasta Run' by African Stone was originally released on the More Cut label, which I picked up a UK "pre" at my local record shop, Java Record Shack which was run by Bunny Donaldson. Dennis Curtis - who did 'Come With Me' - is actually Dennis Bovell under a different name and was one of his early solo singles.
