animal collective - merriweather post pavilion. its only january, but this will be well up there at the end of the year I haven't listened to these boys for a few years and forgot how good they are. Just been listening to "Feels" which is the last one of theirs I bought. I love "Banshee Beat". Now got "Sung Tongs" on..... "Campfire Songs" is my favourite LP of theirs. It's perfect listening when you're wired. Just one continuous haze of an album. It's on next ;D I think I may have to invest in the new one.

Cold Sun - Dark Shadows (World in Sound CD/LP) Stunning 1970 Austin TX dark psychedelia, beautifully remixed/mastered from original mastertapes, never released back in the day, but previously available on a rare `80s LP issue and a couple dodgy boots. This is the real authorized deal. Anyway, it's incredible, the featured instrument is an autoharp in place of a rhythm guitar or keyboards. The best cut is the previously unreleased live cut "Live Again." Crazed, light-but-heavy, bright-but-dark acid music, echoes of the Elevators, Doors, Dylan, Love, Seeds, but ultimately a very original approach, with some very fine & inventive musicianship. A slightly dizzy, seasick vibe pervades, partly due to the slightly out-of-tune singing, yet I cannot stop listening to this. Some of these guys went on to Roky Erickson's backing band, the Aliens.

King Crimson - Starless [track] from Red - CD Amazing, amazing song! I was just listening to "One More Red Nightmare" on Pandora Radio. The marketing company I work is doing a promotion for the new Energizer/Pandora message board. You can check it out at: youcastcorp.com/energizer/pandora. There's some cool exclusive content from Coolio, John Brown's Body, and other artists. Do you know if KC is making a new album? I heard that Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree is playing drums for them now. The Power to Believe is great. I want some new Crimson!

Howard Roberts - Antelope Freeway (Impulse `71)
Cokeadelic headsploitation LP from jaded LA session cats. Incredibly goofy and pretty good in a wanky spacerock sort of way, with Cheech & Chong-ish spoken bits. Not really jazz at all. I seem to have a higher tolerance for this sort of nonsense than most do.

How I love "working from home". Took the opportunity to catch up on some tunes (mainly Animal Collective and highlife!) but I was inspired to put on some Metallica after watching the "Some Kind of Monster" documentary recently.
So I dug out "And Justice for all". It took me back and brought a tear to the eye during "To Live Is To Die". The drumming is immense. The final track was scratched, but it's now not! Bonus ;D
Today's selection:
Animal Collective - Post Pavilion LP (Awesome new album) Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam LP Animal Collective - Water Curses EP Peacocks Guitar Band Int. - Ejiogu LP Sabu Martinez / Sahib Shihab - Winds & Skins LP Orchestre Gorom - Senegal Authentic LP F. Kenya - The Power House LP Master Akwaboa - Meye Meye LP Metallica - And Justice for all LP
