Now that was a conflicted man. Stuck between preachin' and singing the devil's music... Son House was one of the greats of early recorded blues.
I had to stop playing his cd while I drove - too hypnotic.
Perfect music for a rainy whiskey filled night.
If the lord (or the devil) hadn't have taken him away, he'd be 103 today.

Are you signed up to Blues death site Rosko?? very macabre.. No, but a buddy of mine got me a calendar from Blues Images. It features "Classic Blues Artwork From the 1920's" - the amazing artwork that graced the covers of the old blues 78s. And in the calendar, alongside traditional holidays etc., are the birthdays and death days of noted bluesmen and women. The rest of this week is quiet, but Monday the 27th is Leroy Carr's birthday. I highly recommend the calendar, the artwork is amazing - and it came with a great cd featuring the tunes that the artwork represented. bluesimages.com for more info.
