I went to the matinee with some friends (I mistakenly got an evening ticket but blagged my way in as I wanted to go with them) enjoyed it so that I went in again on the same ticket and just said I had lost the stub. If you had to stand at the matinee please accept my apologies. C.D

If that was the first one (and looking at the artist list, it seems to be)...I was at that one too, CD - I even bought a pink T-shirt with the tour logo on it. I loved Hammersmith Odeon. My favourite concert - the Mothership Tour - December 1978 - Hammersmith Odeon. A Parliafunkadelicment Thang! featuring the Brides of Funkenstein and Parlet. What a show

I was down the front at the Parliament/Funkadelic gig - about 5 rows back by the centre aisle!
It was the time George Clinton used to wear a "nappy" on stage ;D ;D ;D
Thing was, I'd sold two tickets to a couple of mates - who bever even turned up! Their loss, not mine!
Absolutely banging show!!!

Lonnie Liston Smith's "Sunburst"? I used to buy all his albums...then they fell away a bit in the 80s (the Doctor Jazz ones) IMO - though a particular highlight was "If You take Care Of Me" from 1984's Silhouettes album and featuring the sublime vocals of Lonnie's brother Donald

Sunburst is from his album Loveland, the first album on Columbia/CBS which he was contracted with after Flying Dutchman and before Dr. Jazz.
By a pure coincidence I was listening to Lonnie Liston Smith's Expansions LP when I saw this topic. WOW!
Lonnie Smith is indeed different and even unrelated to Lonnie Liston Smith.
Btw two of my best concerts I have ever seen are the Jackie Mittoo memorial concert, 1991 Brixton Academy and 1990 Maze feat. Frankie Beverly concert at Hammersmith Odeon. I used to visit London very often those days. Best concert in Finland could have been Mighty Diamonds, don't remember the year. But it was stunning.

"Jackie Mittoo memorial concert, 1991 Brixton Academy" Different point of view I guess...I was quite dissapointed that night....apart from a couple of brilliant 1 song (very short) appearances by Bob Andy and Roy Richards. Lack of vibes, awful sound as always at the Academy. Backing bands were poor ( UB40 was the tightest band on the night!)

To me, coming from the northernmost corner of the world was like a fulfillment. Maybe I was just so excited to see so many legends at once that I would have been content just hearing them order a cheese sandwich. Don't know... At least I enjoyed. And one exalt point to you Inyaki as well ;-)
