so far, it's only been Martha & The Vandellas, a wonderful group in their heydays.i have never found any other female groyup like this. Are there any other ones you'd suggest, who sing with such gusto, melody and power??? the arrangements, vocal or musical are just too brilliant! sock it to Whitney Huston and all the current r&b dollies!

Sweet Inspirations, Velvelettes, Ruby & The Romantics, Ikettes, Shirelles, Marvellettes, Patti Labelle & The Bluebelles, Chantels, Cookies and so on.
There's dozens of great girl groups out there, some of them may lack "power" in their vocals but all are recommended for consistently great records.
Respect
Gordy
PS: That's just a handful from the top of my head, there's hundreds more obscure girl groups.

I do Freddy, on the "Chess Sisters Of Soul" LP and the "Baby Boomer Classics The 60s Vol. 4" CD. Nice one indeed, though both my versions sre rather muffled

I have it on a couple of CDs - one is called "The Best Of Chess Rock And Roll Vol.2" and I can't recall the other - I'll have to check and compare the quality.
A revive 45 could be nice.

The Hearts were the first great girl group; The Shirelles were the last great girl group.

the only rather cheap Elgins album i could find was a split CD with the Monitors, another group led by a woman.Any idea what they sound like? if you have any other suggestions of girl groups, they are more than welcome. The Shirelles were rather disappointing, on the anthology i bought. cheers,
