there was some sort of African scene in Paris who played music influenced by rock'n'roll, but i can't recall any names.I read an article in a trendy mag ages ago but have forgotten about it. i am pretty much sure manu Dibango played some rock'n'roll in his youth. some french west indian musicians also played some sort of tropical r'n'r back in the 60's, guys like Les Loups, for instance.

Grumpy, Many thanks for the wonderful collection of Serenades comps that dropped through my letterbox today. I'm going to enjoy listening to these over the coming days. Thanks also to the compilers!
Let me know what you'd like in return.
Cheers, Ian

May I echo Ian's thanks, Grumpy - 3 more volumes arrived yesterday, though I haven't had a chance to play them yet. Thanks also for the letter, Chris - I'd be delighted to have a beer with you when I'm in Bradford - ironically, I'm bringing my older daughter back (following half-term) this week-end, but, due to the social activities of teenagers, this trip is likely to be an "up and back in a day" as she has a local (to us) birthday party to go to on Saturday - so I'll be travelling Sunday My next trip up is not planned yet...
