Welcome to Part 1 of a specially extended 2 part House of Reggae show in tribute to the Alpha Boys School in Kingston, Jamaica. For the past 100 years this school has produced many great singers and musicians that have been the very foundation from where so many classic ska, rocksteady and reggae records have been created, aswell as producing legendary jazz musicians like Joe Harriott and Dizzy Reece. Part 1 is outstanding Ian and I'm really looking forward to part 2. I especially liked the jazz bits as I was unfamiliar with the impact Alpha Boys had on the jazz scene.

You also reminded me to order some S1 coasters from the School.

No problem dmc, them coasters are very nice, although they are too precious for me to put under my beers so I stuck them on my wall instead!

Regards the jazz influence, I don't think Alpha is as widely recognised among jazz fans as among reggae fans, and so is not name checked when people are talking about Joe Harriott, Dizzy Reece et al, unlike whenever Don Drummond or Tommy McCook are talked about.

oh yes and part 2 is now complete and ready to go up in the next day or two, once podomatic fix their ftp site!
