just using this post to introduce myself with a tune you may already know from 1995 by Johnny Clarke on Niney's Observer label, (Age Is Growing), themusicologist is not a podcast, more like a musical diary... where the 'one tune technique' is the musical weapon employed. themusicologist.wordpress.comsoul and reggae are my two major musical passions but I enjoy and listen to (almost) anything as long as it has the 'vibes'. there's around 70 individual cuts posted on me 'diary' with around 15 of them being from the land of wood and water. diverse selection from the 60's through to contemporary pieces. p.s just like to thank the 'chattychatty crew' for providing this top ranking forum for us to share our love for the sweet sounds of JA..

G, Having had the pleasure? of being on the radio (BBC London), a few times, (only as a guest), I know how challenging it can be. nothing like DJ'ing to a crowd so I thought that you did very well. one suggestion..might be worth letting the listeners know about the history of Reggae. for instance how and why Rock steady evolved out of Ska. You've obviously got the knowledge and I think people would appreciate you sharing it. certainly not a criticism as there's not many radio shows I listen to all the way through .. just thought you may appreciate the feedback

Finally, it's been a while..... Mash It Up Rewind Special bigmikeydread.podomatic.com/enclosure/2008-07-24T01_15_15-07_00.mp3bigmikeydread.podomatic.com/entry/eg/2008-07-24T01_15_15-07_00Mid June and you would have found Ian Causer of House of Reggae, Bigmikeydread, John the Baldhead Selector and Penny Reel playing a few tunes at The Lark in the Park, Islington, London, England. The following is a selection of some of those tunes, and ones that unfortunately didn't get an airing on the night, ones that Mikey wishes had! No Tracklist this time, listen to the show and all will be explained, so never fear! Don't forget to DONATE to the show if you value it, keep it running with some funds to pay for hosting. There is a paypal button on the right of the homepage for Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio at Podomatic any ammount received with thanks.... You can become a fan of the Bigmikeydread R.R. by going to the link below, or why not come in and sign up to the Facebook Group 'Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio' (200 members), where you can tell me what you'd like, find more music to listen to and generally just come to chat on the old front porch with me, your host, Mikey... www.podomatic.com/profile/fan/bigmikeydreadJust recently some changes have been made to Podomatic without any consultation with those of us helping to create a very popular place to get your podcasting needs met. It's quite possible that Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio will be leaving Podomatic before too long. This will unfortunately mean that the RSS feed and therefore automatic updates won't happen for you (if using a podcatcher like itues) until you have that new RSS feed, however we're not going just yet, and I'll put a note on the fridge door before I leave so you know just where we've moved to, don't worry. All my love, Mikey

HITS FROM THE VINYL JUNKYARD hftvj.podomatic.com/HFTVJ - Oddments 1. Hits From The Vinyl Junkyard. Oddments No 1. With a leaning towards JAzz, Doo Wop and 60s pop memorabilia, this is one for your ears if they've got a bit tired of life. 1. Vanilla Fudge - 400 cycles per second 2. (Outake electronic percussion Lp. by some mad German) 3. The Lecuona Cuban Boys 'Say Si Si' 4. Al Green 'Which one do you think?' 5. Troggs 'With A Girl Like You' 6. Chet Atkins 'Heartbreak Hotel' 7. The Who - 'Can't Explain' 8. Fats Waller 'Sweetie Pie' (I bet fats was a one with the 'ladies'!) 9. Hugh Malcolm Good Time Rock 10.Bessie Smith 'A Good Man Is Hard To Find' (This woman once knifed a man for 'treating her mean'!) 11.Le Mans '66 12.Sounds Inc. 13.Beach Boys 'Do Yuh Wanna Dance?'- WALL OF SOUND STUFF, where do you think the Ramones got their sound? 14.Ella Fitzgerald 'Summertime' 15.Marcells - 'Blue Moon' 16.The Strawbs - 'On My Way' (Sandy Denny sings with the Strawbs, a song that almost always makes me cry, you?) 17.Decca 'How to Give Yourself a Stereo Check Up' 18.Firehouse Five plus TWO 'Yes Sir That's Mah Babee' 19.Johnny Kidd 'Please Don't Touch' (if it wasn't for the slipping tempo this would almost be Rock N' Roll) 20.Wings 'Mumbo' 21.Animals 'Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' - Susan Sayers and I used to listen to this as kids on Pennington Bend in Nashville Tennessee when I was a kid, while Captain Bob had a snooze on the Porch... this is a rare Demo version that got accidentally released! Worth a bit too... 22.Ray Charles 'yesterday', not a particularly good version of the tune... 23.Booker T Sapps etc. - Alabama Blues (This one was recorded on Wire recorders in the 1930s, it still f@@kin' rocks though eh!) 24.Joe Tex 'Get Back Leroy' 25.Mr. Bassman (I can't remember who this is buy, and now I've sold it! Answers on a postcard please!) 26.Creedence Clearwater Revival - 'Run Through The Jungle' - This tune always reminds me of my tour in Nam (and I wasn't even there!) 27.Otis Redding - 'My Girl' 'Otis does a version of someone else's tune.... and it's better'. 28.T.Rex 'Organ Blues' (I hate anything by Bolan, indulgent creep, but this one is as much as I could ever stand) 29.Tornadoes - ? Some Jungle thing follow up to Telstar I guess....the label was gone. 30.Animals 'I'm Crying' 'I bloody love the Animals, and Chas sold his cabs for Jimmy, and I love 'em for that if nothing else. 31.Unknown Bluesman, also recorded in Texas by Lomax's Dad on Wire in the 30s. This is haunting shit man. 32.Miles Davis 'Blue In Green' 33.Small Faces 'Grow Your Own' 34.Count Basie 'One O'Clock Jump' 35.Outro HFTVJ exists to pleasure you, but only because some anonymous individual is spending time doing so, so don't be a lazy ass ipod generation grab all and not even pay nothing later... give me your money and I'll either play more and more tunes, or go buy some new ones...see the PAYPAL button, you can use it you know... yeah you've seen it, suh don't try to tell me you've not! Hope you enjoyed the show.... HFTVJ 2008 - All Music has been sourced by HFTVJ in the bargain bins of British charity stores.
