I recently bought the 2006 Island Japan CD reissue of Jah Lion's Colombia Colly.
I've been trying to match up the closest vocal or dub source rhythms that were used for this album.
Using the algoriddim site was very helpful in this.
So far, I've got:
Gathers - Words -> Jah Lion - Wisdom
Upsetters - Set Up Yourself -> Jah Lion - Dread Ina Jamdong
Susan Cadogan - Fever -> Jah Lion - Hay Fever
Upsetters - Kentucky Skank -> Jah Lion - Flashing Whip
Silvertones - Rejoice Jah Jah Children -> Jah Lion - Colombia Colly
Upsetters - Dub Organizer -> Jah Lion - Bad Luck Natty
Chenley Duffus And The Soul Avengers - To Be Your Lover -> Jah Lion - Little Sally Dater
Junior Murvin - Police And Thieves -> Jah Lion - Soldier And Police War
Were there other Perry produced songs that featured the same instrumental backing as Jah Lion's Fat Man, Black Lion, or Sata?
I know that there's a Perry mix of Augustus Pablo's take of the Satta rhythm called Silent Satta on the Pressure Sounds El Rockers anthology, but it seems to be a totally different instrumental take of the Satta rhythm.
On the Jah Lion version, there's some harmony vocals going on, so I'm wondering if there was a Perry produced vocal version on this exact rhythm. Was there?
Also, Jah Lion's Fat Man has always been a favorite of mine. The algoriddim site lists this as being the same rhythm as Fat Man by Fats Domino and Derrick Morgan. Did Perry ever produce a song with the same instrumental backing as Jah Lion's Fat Man?
Also, the algoriddim site lists Jah Lion's Black Lion being based Donnie Elbert's What Can I Do. It's kind of a early R&B sounding rhythm. Did Perry ever released another song on this exact rhythm?
Thanks for your help gents. I've been working on making an "expanded" Colombia Colly disc for kicks.
