Can I start a campaign to give Shane the Quo fan his own series. Him and the Bill & Ted wannabees could have walked straight out of The League Of Gentlemen. It was at times a bit disturbing (when Bill said he'd tried to kill himself several times & was only alive because of Ted & metal) & at other times hilarious,a great watch.

Not forgetting the Dire Straits fan(if ever a band were over generous when naming themselves, surely one word was enough), whose record shopping just seemed to get in the way of his drinking forays at the local pub. Interesting fact learned: There are more independent record shops in the the UK than the US. I think that tells us more about us than it does about them, in a positive way.

It brought memories flooding back of when I had my shop which was also in the "cheap rent" end of town & surrounded by pubs.I used to get some real crazies in,my favourite being Ruben the death metal fan who worryingly worked as a chainsaw wielding tree surgeon by morning & drank what I can only imagined to be pure alcohol or meths for the remainder of the day. Others included the guy who came in & asked if I bought stuff & when I said yes proceeded to whip a frozen leg of lamb out of his pants that he'd just whipped from the supermarket & another who brought in a jacket & asked me to mend his zip, when I asked him why he thought a record shop would mend zips he said "you've got t-shirts in the window".

I also forgot about a girl who used to come in with at least 3 carers, she was a big girl & obviously had a lot of difficulties bless her,but she was determined to spend every penny she had in my shop & would just grab piles of cd's randomly. Her carers were obviously told to encourage her to do her own thing but I have to admit I had to wrestle with my conscience several times when she was buying over £100 worth of cd's every week, especially when she had no idea what they were.I did ask the carers several times if there was a better way of dealing with her desires to spend but the impression I got was that she had a weekly personal allowance from her benefits & what she spent with me didn't affect her well being.

....and a little Scottish guy who used to pass everyday at about 3pm absolutely shitfaced on the way back to his bedsit, one day he staggered through the door & asked if he could buy the Bob Marley Live At The Lyceum poster that was in the side window (blocking the sunlight) ,I told him it was only a repro that I got off ebay for £3.99 but he insisted on giving me a tenner for it (sounds familiar),I told him to go home & get one online when he was sober but he started kicking off saying what was wrong with his money,so anyway to avoid a scene I took his £10 (I feel a pattern evolving) & gave him his poster.A couple of days later he literally fell through the door when I had a Japanese dealer in buying & told me whilst lying on the floor that I was a stupid c**t & the poster he bought had been valued by an auction house & was worth £300. The outcome was I bought a replacement for £3.99 & next time he was passing I gave him £6 & told him he was right & to have a couple of pints on me.

That's for the joke of the day thread Benjamina. Either that or its successor, the Radio Show Fundraising thread
