THE SKA FLAMES We are very sorry to announce that due to the devastating events in Japan The Ska Flames are no longer able to play at The London Intl Ska Festival (21-24 April'11). In the words of band leader Okawa Takeshi "All The Ska Flames and their families are ok, but the situation around us is changing everyday affecting our friends, relatives, and businesses, which makes it impossible for the band to leave Tokyo now. We are running out of foods and fuel not only in stricken areas but also in Tokyo. We have some friends who were injured. Some of them lost their houses and have no food, water or electricity. Some of them died. We have lost a lot of important things. I'm so sorry to say that we cannot go to London to play at your festival this time. All the members of The Ska Flames have been looking forward to going to London and playing at the Ska Festival". We are happy to say Okawa Takeshi, will be making the trip by himself from Japan for our festival, to DJ on the opening night on 21 April'11. I hope you will join us in wishing The Ska Flames & Japan all the very best in these unbelievably hard times. THE LEE THOMPSON SKA ORCHESTRA The brainchild of Madness saxophonist Mr. Lee 'Kix' Thompson, The Ska Orchestra boasts an all-star/hand-picked line up that features fellow Madness original Mark Bedford alongside Steve Rooney-Drums, Kev Burdett-Guitar, Louis Vause-Piano, Seamus Beaghen-Hammond Organ, Jack Mitchell-Trombone, Steve Turner-Saxes, Steve White-Trumpet and of course Lee on sax & vocal duties. Recently formed in London back streets, just off the Hackney Rd, their common denominator is the classic Ska & Reggae sounds that burst out of Jamacia in the mid to late 60's. Last Sunday David Rodigan very kindly interviewed me on his KISS100 radio show to promote the London Intl Ska Festival. I got to select 5 tracks including cuts from Bob & Marcia, Ken Boothe, Dave Barker, Alton & The Skatalites and The Specials. Tracks that reflected what people can expect at the fest. All this week BBC6 Music are celebrating The London Intl Ska Festival with 'Ska Week' on the Chris Hawkins radio show. Monday's show has now been broadcast and featured an interview with Dave Barker (voice of the legendary Dave & Ansel Collins).
