This Nations Saving Grace. The Fall's 4th best album of the 80's, which probably makes it the 4th best album by anybody that decade.

The best Fall album of the 80's, come to think of it the best British album of the last 30 plus years.

and Two amazing compilations by Australian band The Scientists. Check them out if you like The Cramps, Birthday Party, Gun Club, Jon Spencer etc. I'm guessing only Taff of this parish will have heard of them?

I know Lindsay Hutton Heddwyn. Grew up in the same dump as him. Well I say know him, we're roughly the same age, we had mutual friends, hung out in the same pubs, record shops etc. I'm going back 30 plus years so can't remember ever really chatting with him too much, but certainly on nodding terms with him. He was definitely going to the same Glasgow and Edinburgh punk/new wave/post punk gigs as me from '77 onwards.

I'll excuse you a touch of the Reel's Roly but you have told me this before when Lux Interior died. Not that I mind as I hung on that guy's every word for years. It all started with the Legion Of The Cramped then went onto Next Big Thing, then the Fleshtones,Alan Vega & Fuzztones fan clubs.I was about 15/16 when I got into USA 60's Garage Punk after an article Julian Cope wrote for NME & Lindsay & Edwin Pouncey (aka Savage Pencil who did the art work for Sonic Youth amongst others) were reviewing that sort of stuff & related.I remember I used to write to him in Grangemouth, was that your stamping ground? In tribute my non reggae albums of the day are - Cramps - Songs The Lord Taught Us Fleshtones - Roman Gods Suicide - Suicide Fuzztones - Lysergic Emanations

Yep, Grangemouth, the kind of town that makes Sellafield feel like Butlins. Home of The Cocteau Twins and smog, grime, and foul smells from the BP and ICI, where funnily enough two of the group both worked before the band took off - Robin at the BP and Will at ICI. Couldn't wait to leave that dump, and I miss it like a dose of the clap. I presume I also told you I witnessed Lux Interior's Jim Morrison type flashing incident at Glasgow Apollo?

Not sure if there ever was a "reggae album of the day" thread. Let's live a little on the edge and leave it where it is, eh! Great Congos show and good to see Ranking Roger enjoying Fisherman. I believe it was Roger who was responsible for Go Feet/Arista putting out Heart Of The Congos in the UK back in 1980. A pivotal album for me as a youngster. Bunking off swimming and going round George's house to listen to it on his mom and dad's hi-fi. Lashings of cold milk and chocolate biscuits to accompany it

What a great cover, Gryffe. Never knowingly heard Microdisney but am almost tempted by the sleeve alone.

Some info for you Grumpy. Cherry Red have just re-released this long out of print Microdisney album which was originally released, I think, 1984. I have long since lost my vinyl copy, so this is a real bargain. www.cherryred.co.uk/cherryred-exd.asp?id=4200I got my re-release from Amazon, but you can see what kind of prices were being charged for the original CD, although this is surely some kind of joke. www.amazon.co.uk/Clock-Comes-Down-Stairs-Microdisney/dp/B0000076H3/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1373627864&sr=1-2&keywords=clock+comes+down+the+stairsAround about the same time they released an album called "We Hate You South African Bastards" which was a compilation of early songs. I vaguely remember at the time that they admitted they had slipped up a bit with the title, it should have been ""We Hate You White South African Bastards". Whatever, the album was re-released with the title "Love Your Enemies" to reflect post-Apartheid South Africa Found this info on one of the Amazon reviews. "The album cover photograph by Felicia Cohen - approaching London via Waterloo Station - is also one of the most evocative of the era!" I would recommend the album highly, and this compilation would also be a great introduction to Microdisney. www.discogs.com/Microdisney-Daunt-Square-To-Elsewhere-Anthology-1982-88/release/1660563Amazon, have it slightly cheaper, although its a used copy www.amazon.co.uk/Daunt-Square-To-Elsewhere-Anthology/dp/B000U0TARY/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi_3

"And He Descended Into Hell" from "Crooked Mile" is my favourite Microdisney song. I seem to remember the Peel session version was even better, but I've not heard that since whenever it was broadcast (1987 ish?)
