Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers - LAMF Out of interest Rolando was it Speedy Keen's muffled original or Tony James' remix that tickled your trumpet?

Its not the original Heddwyn, its this one. www.allmusic.com/album/lamf-the-lost-77-mixes-mw0000628309I'll read the 10 page booklet later and see if it mentions Tony James. On the back it says produced by Speedy Keen and Daniel Secunda, doesn't mention Tony James or anything about who mixed or remixed it.

I have 2 vinyl copies of this LP Rolltheboatashore, the original on Track Records that was "produced" by Speedy Keen, once of musical giants Thunderclap Newman, who completely fcked it up just as he did the first Motorhead LP. In the mid 80's Jungle Records reissued some Heartbreakers records & Tony James was brought in to remaster the Like A Mother F**ker LP & it was reissued as LAMF Revisited in a plain black sleeve with pink lettering.

I have a copy of The Byrds - 'Sweetheart Of The Rodeo' which has a second disc that features the versions of some songs from that album that were sung by Gram Parsons. The original copy of the album was not allowed to include these versions due to some fucked up copyright bullshit or such business, and instead were sung by Roger McGuinn. Nothing wrong with these versions as such, but the Gram versions were what were intended to be released before "the man" got involved.

That disc was a revelation when released. The first country music in rock, before either Bob Dylan or The Band, though Dylan's influernce is there in 'You Ain't Going Nowhere' and other songs. I saw The Byrds at Middle Earth in 1968. Gram Parsons was a member but left the group a month later. There were only about a hundred of us in the club. At the time The Byrds had little residual following.

Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers - LAMF Out of interest Rolando was it Speedy Keen's muffled original or Tony James' remix that tickled your trumpet? Its neither. The sleevenotes are a bit wooly but this gives a clue. "A 1984 remix by Tony James and Johnny failed to come up with the definitive goods. This shot delivers The Heartbreakers out of muddy waters and into the sharp focus of all their radiiant bravura" It seems Alan Hauser of Jungle Records (the label my CD is on) acquired 35 spools of tape from Leee Black Childers, "each tape containing five to ten mixes from the LAMF sessions". He sifted through the tapes "six days were spent listening .... transferring the best mixes down to DAT" With the "300-odd mixes down to a short list of fifty tracks, the burden of selecting the "definitive 14 tracks were made by some of Johnny's musical colleagues and friends in London.... the final selection leans towards the rockier punchier mixes, so the end result is a harder album" So to sum up, it seems that they recorded numerous versions of each song with Speedy Keen, and Hauser (and Thunder's friends)cherry picked what was thought to be the best out of the 300 or so available to them. I remember before I bought this that I scoured the 'net to find out what was thought to be the definitive version, and it was this one.
