1. The Uplifter - Strength & Power (C & S Sound Production) 12" 2. Stamma Ranks - Taurus Special (King Culture) 7" 3. I.C.E.E.S. - Unite Prosecution (B.N. & K.C) 7" 4. Keithus I - Prophecy (King Culture) 7" 5. Howie Smart - Tune In (King Culture) 12" 6. Everal Cooper & The High Two - Help Out This Nation (Songhai) 12" 7. Christie B & Robotman - Bad Bwoy Come & Go (King Culture) 7" 8. Jah Lover - Dub In Front Yard (Roots Improvement) 12" 9. Mr. Cool & Stamma Ranks - Jah Lead I (King Culture) 12" 10. Prince Allan - Jah Jah Love (King Culture) 12" The cover art is from a compilation I did some time ago for my own enjoyment. I really love King Cultures sound and for me it is a mystery how he hasn't gotten more recognition. If I had the money I'd put out a proper 2xCD collection with his greatest tunes. Hopefully Culture will do this himself.

set list on the back looks maybe better than the front? but thanks you have solved.. or.. i don't remember if i knew that roots improvement 12" was connected to king culture. but the real shocker is to see that second list including loving larry -- is that the one on the flip of neville root "struggling"? and if so, what about the neville? man that's a 12" of nasty heavy brutal business... as for what i might add into your 10 (if that was possible), i am still much more moved by barry brown's "drifter" and the counteraction from stamma than their pieces to 'cuss cuss' -- really wish those would have been the ones reissued! big business still, k. nice one.. --

The roots improvement 12" is from what I've gathered the first release King Culture did when in Canada (1978). The Neville Root track is really awesome but for some reason the Loving Larry tune really touches a soft spot in me. I think it's such a beautiful track. I didn't know that Barry Browns and Stamma Ranks cuts on the drifter had been released as singles? Or you are perhaps thinking of the album cuts? Truly great cuts both of them. The album seems to be rarer than rare though. I've tried to compile a discography with King Cultures releases. I'll post it up here later on. Perhaps people on the board can help me complete it. When it comes to the albums I really rate the dub album he released, King Culture in Cultural Mood. There's a great dub to Clive Matthews »Live Not For Vanity« on it + dubs to Mighty Diamonds »Pass the Knowledge« and other goodness. And thanks for the kind words. If anyone of you ever decide to release an album keep me in mind.

Damn, this music is boss. Just as good a collection of Canadian roots reggae as the Summer Records Anthology from Light In The Attic. Big up Kalcidis!

in the meantime i remembered i wanted to ask you -- do you know who this P. Thompson guy is? I don't know anything about him unfortunately. I speak to King Culture every now and then ... I'll try to remember and ask him next time we speak.

Thanks for all the kind words on the compilation by the way (both here and as PM's). It's good to know that my two only compilation (the other being Ranking Dread) have gotten such a good response. The Favorite; I think I've actually spoken to k-zar about King Culture once. But it must have been a couple of years ago.

kalcidis, you've done the work already. why not take this to king culture and tell him to release it? or you can both get together in shopping it around? you might find a taker who would do the manufacture and distribution, and it would just net KC a licensing deal. or you can tell him you've prepared a master for him and all he has to do is get them made and see what ernie can do for him on dist (which is pretty good -- he wholesales to UK, Eurpope, Japan, etc).. seems to me you're already there on volume 1. and by the way two separate discs would ideally net him more proceeds, as opposed to one 2CD. boos from the crowd.. bottles flying now... gotta run... --

I agree with Nick - this is dynamite stuff and should really be properly re-released. The fact that a Canadian reggae fan like me knew nothing about King Culture and his work proves that this music deserves a wider audience. KC should re-press a limited run of 7"s and 12"s as well.

The Favorite; Actually I was thinking of asking King Culture about whether he should release a compilation like this. I figured since I already had done the cover art and he had the music on this compilation unreleased he could be interested. But my main problem is that I really don't have the time to deal with these kind of things. Today I would change the track listing a bit also I think.
But yeah, King Culture really should put something like this out and try to get it distributed through the likes of EB. I would also love to provide the cover art (would even do it for free - just for the pleasure of seeing my work coupled with his fantastic music).
Perhaps I should print out the covers in good quality and send him a CD-R showing how it could look and sound? Hopefully he would enjoy it and pursue the project himself.

There's a store I know of that has quite a few old stock of King Culture 7 inches, I'll have to go and check what was available...
