I think Running From Jamaica was recorded at the Black Ark. I'm assuming that's why Mick featured it in one of his Radio Scratch sessions.

Bigmikeydread Reggae Radio has now hit the heights.. ;-)
8th for the entire podomatic website for fans 10th today in the music section for downloads Hanging around 25th overall in the music section...
I guess even though I was talking too much during the last cast I was doing something right... perhaps, that I havn't uploaded anything new for well over a month!?!?!
Was trying to get something new together, but my nice Cardoid condensor Rode Mic just went the way of the dustbin, and I have also pulled the plug off of my Dt100s. That's really pissed me off.. I'll have to get that old SM58 up and running again... shitty thing that it is..
Anyway how are all of you guys?
I'm on dial up... it's shit.
New site up for Charlie Reggae, but you knew that didn't you...
Anyway I'm still alive and kicking the shite out of my crappy studio equipment in frustration.

I've been watching you gradual rise up the "most popular" section and am most impressed. I'm currently at 60, BMC at 63 and Gordy at 70. I must confess I'm a little suspicious about how they work these things out as my heighest placings have sometimes conincided wiyth periods when I haven't put a new podcast up and my listening figures have actually gone down whilst my position has gone up. Also my actual listening figures have sometimes spiked for certain shows ( gone from 10 downloads one day to 100 the next and then back down to 10) which I feel are as likely to be errors as they are to the sudden popularity of certain downloads. Oh yeah I've put a new show up. It's the Tighten Up session from April of this year which featured guests Icon C and Stuart Soullful. These two may not be the most well know selectors on the circuit but trust me if you like Roots or Rocksteady you need to check this. Some seriously heavy selections going down. It's in three parts due to the length (roughly 50 minutes each). dancecrasher.podomatic.com/

It's interesting to read the statistics of the podcasts. As some sort of trial to make the free users (like me) go pro, they now opened the pro-statistics for everyone for a limited period of time. So now for the first time I get to see how often the mixes have been downloaded since uploading them, where people that download are located and from which links the site is often visited. I was quite surprised to see that my oldest mixes are downloaded over a 1000 times, that people that check out my mixes are located all over the world (Costa Rica, Zimbabwe, Rio, Taiwan, all over Europe and the US etc) and that my podcasts are recommended on websites I never even heard of before. You other podomaticers must certainly have similar situations and know this for a long time already, but I was just pleased to see this the other day, I had no idea it would go like this. Another nice observation is that my 'recent' mixes at least get the same attention as the foundation ones (on the message boards it's often the foundation ones that get attention and the recent ones far less).

They could be doing any number of different things that skew those rankings, such as how frequently there's a new program. Whatever the case, peeps from this board are putting some great stuff out.
Carry on.

Yes the ratings are strange, for a while I was in the high 40s, low 50s. At the time I was only about 10 places behind Mikey and he's gone on to stardom while I've slipped about 20 places!
I've only posted one selection all this month as my 100GB bandwidth was used up within the first week. Surely that would have sent me high up the rankings? Alas it didn't. Fuck it though, as long as people are enjoying the tunes and I get enough feedback that they are. I've got over 1500 people subscribed to me and at one point had over 5000 peeps check me out in a week although that's slipped right down to about 700 a week now.
Respect
Gordy

Well folks, just posted two new podcasts, 2 hours each. The first features the sounds of Little Roy, and was broadcast on radio this past Friday. The other show features the sounds of Mikey Dread, and was originally broadcast in 2005. algoriddim.podomatic.com/Enjoy! Also, there are still 9 other 2 hour podcasts still available that will slowly be disappearing, so download them while you can...

Yeah, the statistics can be fun to look at, I mean I can even see different neighborhoods around my city where people have downloaded the shows, much less all over the world. In terms of the links, the tricky thing is that some of the referrals are just from ip addresses, so you can't tell where exactly the reference was from. How do you tell where you're at in the rankings? I haven't really poked around much...

It's in three parts due to the length (roughly 50 minutes each). dancecrasher.podomatic.com/Yes Tim, I've noticed some very strange trends over this last month. As I may have said, I havn't put up any shows for well over a month now, a month and a half or more... and yet I've gone up and up in the ratings... I don't really have an explanation of why that would be. BUT have noticed that my stream (Feed Views) have gone way way up, and downloads down,.. as a trend. However as both appear to be counted as 'Downloads' for the Statistics sake it doesn't matter to my ranking, as overall the trend has been up. I was on the front page of the music section for a while, and that certainly immediately upped the download rate. I don't really have any answers as to why my show would be any more popular than say yours, Bmc's or Gordy's etc. I keep wondering why.. and what it is that works as far as people are concerned with what I do. The only differences in approach as far as I'm concerned is that I have my chatty chatty inane prattle to wade through and perhaps the shows I'm doing are more approachable in that they cater for those average listeners that want an average selection, nothing too crazily rare, but nothing too commercial either. I have also noticed that the more friends and fans you have the more you are mentioned on Google, and the more the word gets out there becuase Podomatic have done such a good job with the Tags and search Engine submission side of things. That all helps. Also, just recently I have noticed that my Bandwidth has been going out of the stratosphere, as my shows are long and big to download. I plan to make the shows shorter, but more frequent. However given my rise up the charts as I did precisely nowt to imporve the selection available, perhaps that's a bad move, not a good one! I do after all is said and done really think that chat helps, if nothing else your show will have a personality, not just a playlist. People are bound to connect with you on some level. Nice to chat, I don't get the opportunity to do this often these days...

I assumed your popularity was connected to listings on itunes to be honest mikey but then again I'm probably wrong.
It's interesting what you said about bandwidth Gordon - mine has been on zero for the past two weeks (that's probably because no one is listening of course)...

Indeed Tim, silly me... Things went mental when a friend on itunes submitted me. You have to be a 'shop' member there to get any action out of their thing. My pie charts tell me that 75% of all podcatchers are/is itunes. So's you is right there Tim P,.. not wrong. And I just fi-got... Aren't you guys up on itunes then? I havn't looked to see as it's stupid Quicktime embeds with mozilla in such a way as to annoy a Saint!

Hmm, mine has been on zero too for a week or so, but I know that people have been listening. Hopefully I'm not quickly approaching my max. How do you all encode your shows? I do mine at 128 kbps mono, which is equivalent to 64kbps in size. I'd like to get into iTunes, but I submitted a request and got rejected. Do you think it is because my show is in mono? In some ways, I want a lot of people to hear the shows (that's the whole reason they're up there, right?) but I also don't want to have to start cutting back in order to avoid going over my bandwidth. Its nice to be able to put up a bunch of shows and give people a variety.

My show got rejected on itunes as well. I tried emailing them to explain. I think it's rather unfair some other people I know who do shows are allowed to be on itunes while others are not. Crap if you ask me. Also I have a new guest show I put up with some selections from the US ska band the Pietasters. A great modern ska/soul band in their own right. Alan their sax player submitted some of his favorite JA tracks from ska, reggae, to rocksteady. mobtownskasounds.podomatic.comJW BMD what about your podcast is different from one of our shows? Is it anything to do with feed? I think that's why my show got rejected from itunes. Gordon your latest show is amazing. More boogaloo please...
