Mine was the Canberra Day Rock Festival at the Canberra Showgrounds in 1973 when I was just 6. My 9 year old brother and I were dropped off by our Mum and wandered about checking out the hippies, sharpies and occasional glam rockers gathered in the barren expanse of the dusty showgrounds. Headlining that day were current ACDC frontman Brian Johnson's old band "Geordie" and a bunch of local hard rock bands like Big Red. We thought it was cool but we didn't know any of the bands so were more interested in the counterculture vibe that we had never before experienced in duller than dull Canberra. We did spot Thin Arthur from the TV show Aunty Jack, went up and said "you're Thin Arthur!", then hung out with him for a few hours as he "rolled his own cigarettes". It was top. pcug.org.au/~stmcdona/auntyjac.html

The Jesus & Mary Chain, Dinosaur Jr, My Bloody Valentine and, wierdly, Blur. Brixton Academy sometime in '92. Very noisy and earsplittingly loud, but good fun for a 15-year-old indie fan!
